Universities should weigh the first semester less and cap the number of hours taken. I know plenty of people who fucked up their first semester due to culture shock/feelings of isolation.

I kind of agree, but providing a poverty threshold was probably the worst thing to happen to our welfare system. It's a completely exploitable concept and is much less equitable than other (perhaps more invasive) quality standards.

The last few struck me a few years ago when this was first announced. The first company that rolls these out will have so much power over commerce in general. I can imagine Google offering a service to help optimize those kinds of variables

I've read all the released documents, I get the impression that most of this was instigated by Jobs. Sure they played along for this purpose, but the threats and escalation started with the Job's emails in 05.

Facebook has been much more flippant with privacy policies and their use of data than Google has ever been. I only see unfavorable comparisons of google to facebook on HN and it really baffles me. It couldn't be farther from the truth.
