Your argument seems to be AWS isn't prioritizing the things that you think are most important. I think thats fair. But that doesn't mean the products abandoned or not being updated.

Redshift is definitely not abandoned. AWS just announced a bunch of improvements and new features at re:invent in the last 2 weeks[0]. Its not obvious to me why supporting a newer wire format would be a high priority for AWS. I think I woul

What AWS services do you consider "abandoned"? The only one I can think of that might be in this category is SimpleDB. AWS recommends you use DynamoDB instead of SimpleDB for new applications. However, I wouldn't call SimpleD

If I were in AWS/GCP's position, I would prefer to send alerts rather than turn off services. Shutting off services can mean destroying the customer's data with no way for them to recover it. That could be from terminated eph

Well, gRPC uses HTTP/2 as its default transport so I'm not sure "HTTP is for hypertext documents" is valid. Note that gRPC never used HTTP/2 PUSH_PROMISE frames so it isn't affected by their removal. gRPC'

Neat! Would this make it possible in the future for S3 to support CAS like operations for PutObject? Something like supporting `if-match` and `if-none-match` headers on the etag of an object would be so useful.

I ran linux on a MBP as my primary machine from 2009 - 2015 (on 3 different hardware revs). The late 2015 MBPs moved a bunch of peripherals off of the USB bus making them harder to use with linux at the time. In the years since, support has

This reminds me of a killer new startup I'm thinking of investing in. They sold me on it as soon as I heard their elevator pitch: International Stamp Arbitrage.

I have found a couple of albums in YT Music where the songs are not listed in the real album order. It drives me nuts when I'm listening to an album and the songs play in the wrong order. Its also weird because the same albums had the

gRPC does not use PUSH_PROMISE. It uses HTTP/2 streams, but those streams all get initiated by the client.

This is really cool. A secure enclave that's just a normal vm, with attestation capabilities is a pretty big deal. I'm especially excited about the new ability to use ACM certificates on ec2 hosts (instead of just a load balancer)

Sorry you've had issues with gopls, the gopls deep completions are one of my favorite things! At this point gopls works way better than godef+gocode ever did for me.

A properly configured kafka cluster across 3 AZs _should_ be able to survive the loss of a single AZ. Obviously you should do testing and DR exercises to make sure _your_ cluster and application work in that scenario.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly. If you mean you need a Go compiler to compile a Go program, thats true. That's the only build dependency here. If you don't want to build it yourself, wormhole-william has precompiled binar

If you are generating a new keypair, you should default to ed25519. There are still a number of openpgp/smartcard devices that only support RSA keys. Edit: Another reason one might still use RSA keys: ed25519 isn't a FIPS-140 appr

There seems to be some confusion about what the disabling of the "ssh-rsa" public key signature algorithm actually means. This does not mean that you will need to generate new non-rsa keys (although that isn't a bad idea). Th

No, the keys themselves are fine, and are not going to be "disallowed". Its the SHA-1 part of the signature algorithm that is the problem. Fortunately you can use SHA-2 with your existing "ssh-rsa" keys, as the release n
