Nomad will still get you where you need to be. Aside from vm live migration i am yet to find a good example of a workload where nomad is straight up is unable to do what you need.

Been running Nomad for a while now at work and home, and it is such a fun project to work and tinker with. Great community, lots of plugins and other great stuff. After running k8s in prod and home Nomad felt like a breath of fresh air in a

If you are looking for a great server system give Omnios/Smartos and other Illumos distributions a try. Rock solid, well engineered and legitimately fun to tinker with. OpenIndiana is the desktop option, heard a lot, but i have no expe

Sounds like a set of excuses tbh. I am running an ancient Solaris VM in internal network, and still have HTTPS for services, without any issues/added complexity. Unless you call a single cronjob that.

Damn, that is really nice seeing that OCI things are coming to BSD world. Outside of linux, illumos was probably the only os which was able to run OCI containers via lx-branded zones. Great stuff.

Great replacement for docker. For personal use it is pretty much a drop-in replacement. I used it with hashicorp nomad, and so far had no issues at all. One thing that might be an issue for some is Docker-in-Docker thing is kinda broken. (w

Yeah, you are right. It is not exactly YAML's fault but how it is used. I am ok with using it with ansible/salt/compose. But k8s is stretching it to it's limits and makes it cumbersome to use. And yeah, there is not much

Nomad also scales really well. In my experience swarm had a lot of issues with going above 10 machines in a cluster. Stuck containers, containers that are there but swarm can't see them and more. But still i loved using swarm with my 5

Nomad + Consul (service mesh) + Vault (secrets) + qemu driver. Provision vms using cloud-init and you should be gtg. Otherwise you can try giving KubeVirt a go. This will have a steeper learning curve, but it is a good product.
