I get the point of this post, even if it seems a bit of a tangent from the what the author is saying, but >>in case you think you have spent 10 years learning all the secret recipes in computer science books but are not good in othe

I own the first edition. It's a decent, high-level overview of the changes since HTML 4. It assumes that you have a good understanding of CSS and JavaScript also. However, I don't know CSS or JS and I still learned quite a bit from the book

I don't find this to be particularly surprising or outrageous. If someone types in "thep", what are they supposed to suggest "thepiratebay.com - download free..."? I think it's a little misleading to say that Google is censoring anything. T

This seems to be much in the same vein as operator overloading. As long as the programmer defines these with intuitive names, I think they'll serve to make C++ a more expressive and readable language.

I don't really have the perspective to comment on how common they are, but they do exist. Ruby is full of little things like this, which one of the things I simultaneously love and hate about Ruby

Ruby even uses some predefined globals (eg $_) that are pretty much straight out of Perl. http://www.tutorialspoint.com/ruby/ruby_predefined_variables...

I don't see how this is supposed to be comparable to C++. AppleScript is buggy and C++ is, I dunno, hard to learn? I guess that's the point that's being made. The thing with C++ is that if you have bugs in your C++ code, it's probably your

I seriously doubt that you're alt-tab'ing faster than you're making a saccade to another monitor. We're talking tens of milliseconds to glance over. What if you have to hit tab 2/3/4 times to get to the application you want? And you have to

Or instead of locking it, you could just have a "Last modified" time stamp or a log indicating when modifications were made.

At my university, this kind of stuff is covered in a class called Digital Logic, which is a precursor to Computer Architecture. I've a pretty good understanding of how all the stuff works that's mentioned in the blog post. edit: It may actu

I don't understand how the title of the article is relevant. I'm inclined to believe that there's some truth to it, but after reading the blog, I didn't gain any insight on the topic. It just seemed like a nice story about a girl who turned

The number of accounts compromised (or really, the number of times an account is compromised) has to be put in context. The context is the number of logins per unit time. So, I think they're both important. And I don't think anyone is sayin

It's still 0.06% of all logins per year. You have to multiply 365 by the 1 billion logins every day, too, not just the 600K fraudulent ones.

I'll often get calls from recruiters telling me they've found a position for which I'm a perfect match. And then they explain it's a senior developer position requiring 5 years of experience, when it's very clearly stated on my resume that
