Thanks for pointing this out, I just now added a precision field to the Engine class to help with this.

Yeah, the painter's algorithm fails with certain geometries, like when polygons intersect each other, or when they overlap in a certain way. Maybe I should compare min positions rather than centroids, but I don't think that would

This is the book that inspired me to create a WebGL knot gallery ( https://prideout.net/knotgl/ ) which I eventually rewrote using Filament ( https://prideout.net/knotess/ ).

Yes, I'm happy with this design decision. The only bummer is that it doesn't allow daisy-chaining, as in: img = img.resize(...).blur(....).hflip()

It's a small target audience :) I think graphics developers like myself would be interested; people who work with distance fields, tileable images, HDR imagery, and height map data. Maybe a technical artist at an animation studio woul

Understood. Maybe it helps that Snowy does not define an Image object, instead it simply operates on numpy arrays. See also https://github.prideout.net/snowy/index.html#interop

Smaller tool, not a replacement. ImageMagick is much bigger, more powerful, and more production ready. Snowy is hopefully a bit more Pythonic and easy to play with.

Not as fast as PIL but has reasonable optimizations like performing convolution in two passes, caching filter weights from row to row, and using numba decorations. It's not quite apples to apples because Snowy offers a variety of filte

I've played with Nim, I think it's great and deserves more attention. Especially in the scientific computing and gamedev communities. It has Python-like terseness, static typing, and simple C interop.

Interesting, you had to purchase a license for the tiles? I thought that OpenMapTiles were "open".

For the client library, it's interesting that they are bullish on leaflet rather than mapbox-gl-js. After playing with their respective demos, I found that the latter seems much smoother and prettier.

This blog post is a sort of homage to one of my college professors (Dr. David Banks) whom I credit for my career path. He wrote a paper on streamlines that I never bothered to read until recently, 22 years after it was published.

This is nice for iterating, but for an actual deployment it's not so nice for three reasons: (1) Prevents outside navigation into named anchors. (2) Makes the content slow to load. (3) Suffers from a flash of unstyled con
