Well, I agree that if you are using alternate means to achieve the same effect (or better!) and that's not recognized by the FIPS compliance then that can be painful. My experience lies mostly in C and embedded applications, where the

I don't understand the question. We created software and we wanted it to be secure (by ourselves). When it came to FIPS compliance, we had to pay for certification, but we were already compliant anyway, so it was only procedure. It

But... you have to go to a shop to get the replacement. I suppose you could mail it by yourself to the manufacturer, though I must admit I never tried that. It requires too much effort, contacting manufacturer, describing the problem, etc.

I frequently have problems with some touch screens, because my fingers are too dry. Seems like some touch screens are better, i.e. I don't notice it at all, and some are intolerably bad.

AFAIK, only 3rd party cookies require this consent. I am pretty sure you require consent for 2nd party as well. Your own site's cookies? Do what you want. GDPR, however, also covers other things like your storing user's data, but

The author replied with additional explanations, so it seems that the additional 400MB were needed because the debug symbols were compressed.

Well, based on the article, if there was a memory leak then they should see the steady increase in memory consumption, which was not the case. The only explanation I can see (if their conclusion is accurate) is that the end result of the sy

Hmm, I understand this difference in genes differently. You and I probably share 99% of effective genes, but still the difference in genes is much greater because there we are comparing the entire DNA. There is a lot of non-affecting DNA. A

Well, the explanation I heard is that snoring provided protection during sleeping to scare away predators. I don't know the source for this theory, so take it with a grain of salt :)

Not the OP, but I think I get the "sad and scary" part. It seems as though there is some vilification going on and that's happened before with very sad outcome.

I think we all agree that you need to test eventually. I do think most of us would already be double checking for leaks. It just seems one of the obvious things that may go wrong when putting it all together.

It is a promotion, I agree, at least at most companies. They usually have a single ladder and many times from senior engineer there is nowhere to go except management. Some companies, however, do recognize the need for multiple ladders, so

Based on this comic I've seen unit tests use 4 as replacement for random generated number to ensure non flakiness (of course, only when needed). But it might explain the LLM's bias?

Seriously? Yes, you should read the docs of every API you use and every tool you use. I mean, it's sort of ok if you read somewhere how to use it and you use it in the same way, but I, for one, always check the docs and more often even

As others have stated, I don't think we have anything to worry about. As a SWE you are expected to neatly balance code, its architecture and how it addresses the customers' problems. At best, what I've seen LLMs produce is co
