I meant to compare mainly from a user perspective. If a train runs every 4 mins and takes a bit more than an hour to get to it's destination that's very similar to the tube experience. Very different to a typical train experience

From what I understand HS2 was planned to become very similar to the tube with 18 trains per hour. This is more that one every 4 minutes. The trains would also run very fast. This allows for caring lots of passengers, but it also is very co

The problem with notebooks is that they are not searchable and tracking code changes and creating libraries from them is not straight forward. My approach is to combine the strengths of both IDE and notebooks. I put my code into a package t

I used to have a Toshiba Portege R500 which had a transreflective screen. It was an LCD that could be used in sunlight because incoming light got reflected back from behind the screen. The colors suffered a bit, but you could even switch of

Thanks a lot. This is a lot of information to digest. I will check out your Twitter feed and I think I need to start to play around with TPUs then. Scaling seems to work fantastic for you. I am working more in computer vision and we are run

A bit off topic, but I am looking at TPUs at the moment. Can I ask for clarity if you mean TPUs are easier to use than GPUs out vice versa? I thought TPUs are harder to work with because they only support Tensorflow rather than Tensorflow a

Wait what? Do you know about the %debug magic? It is the best thing ever, particularly when prototyping in the notebook which keeps most of the state. I saw Fernando Pérez use it in a YouTube video. Shame I cannot find it anymore. He was sa

I posted this, because I find this very cool. But before using this in production anywhere, I wanted to find out how secure people think this is and what should be done regarding audits etc before it can be used in a serious system. Does an

I have tweeted about this a couple of weeks ago. No answer from Google, but then again I don't have much of a following. I hope this attention turns their decision around. I noticed this particularly badly when I tried to Google a prod

This is kind of how research at universities and public research institutes is funded by grants. You get money to do research, you publish a paper on your research and if it is deemed to have made enough impact, more grants will be funded a

If an atmosphere were created one way or another on Mars, would it not be stripped away again by solar winds? I thought the lack of a magnetic field is the reason why Mars has so little atmosphere left.

Painted bicycle lanes are actually dangerous in my opinion. I cycle almost every day in London for now about 6 years. I avoid streets with painted cycle paths if I can (and take parallel side roads instead). The way I see it, painted cycle

With my background in computer science and ML, I worked with genitesists to automate some of their observations. A lot (almost everything) what they do routinely is still done manually. In genetics there are about 10 model organisms (I forg
