However, the build volume (5"x5") is significantly smaller than most FDM printers, and it's significantly slower, as I understand.

It's not FTL. Quantum teleportation is like this: Alice shows Carol and Bob a red ball and a blue ball, and two empty boxes. Without showing Carol and Bob which ball goes in which box, Alice puts a ball in each box and gives one box to Bob

I'd also be skeptical of a benchmark created by a company that has a pretty big dog in the fight.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the recent Oracle v. Google lawsuit determine that language specifications aren't copyrightable?

First of all, the grass wasn't even genetically modified. The grass (Tifton 85) is a hybrid between two other grasses [ http://www.tifton.uga.edu/fat/tifton85.htm ]. Secondly, even if it was, this headline is absurd. It's a widely-used stra

Actually, a bunch of commercial quantum crypto systems were hacked a few years ago, in spite of being "theoretically unhackable". The details are at http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/security/quantum-hacking-cr... , but basically you can co

The cool thing about quantum mechanics is that a man-in-the-middle attach won't work! The reason for this is the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, which states that there are certain attributes of a particle where we can't know both of them

The problem with this seems that the only people who will buy this are the people who spend more than $1k/mo on flights, so they'll end up having a really hard time making money. But I'd love to be proven wrong.

This is especially useful if you're on a laptop, especially a ThinkPad with the pointing stick. If you're doing something like Photoshop, it's nice to have one pointer near the tools and another near the work surface - it makes switching to

I saw this as well - there are a lot of strange passwords that occur frequently. I suspect that people make bots all with the same password, though I don't know what they're used for.

I think the really big factor here is that scientists don't want to go into politics! Maybe I'm painting the world with an overly broad brush here, but politics and science approach the truth in exactly opposite ways. I'm not going to say t

I've been using DDG for the past 2 weeks or so. First, the bad: 1. It's really slow. Latency is usually on the order of seconds, as opposed to 100s of milliseconds on Google. 2. Results could be better. Roughly 80-90% of the time I find wh

Yep, I agree with you - although every error should be expressible as a type error, languages like Coq where this is actually possible make writing usable code pretty difficult. I think there's a pretty wide range of middle ground, ranging

I think the proper way to do this is through the use of interfaces (Java), abstract superclasses (C++), or typeclasses (Haskell, etc.). These give you the benefits of polymorphism, e.g. you can pass anything that implements "read" to a fun

My biggest problem with Python is that projects larger than a given size tend to become unmaintainable rather quickly. This is in large part because of the lack of strong typing and type annotations; if you aren't the only author or can't k
