A hypothetical Datacenter version might have skipped the optical drive, perhaps cutting down on their losses. At launch I doubt they would have had enough spare processors to build them without cutting into their PS3 production capacity. Ad

For the PlayStation 3, another thing driving Linux's removal was that organizations were buying PS3s to use in data centers. But Sony sold them at a loss (IIRC over $100/unit loss, even being sold at $600 twenty years ago) and int

Ethernet includes address and source identifiers so that multiple sources and destinations can be used on the same wire. As the sibling comment mentioned, hubs (not switches) simply broadcasted every frame to every connection, and the NICs

I've had three phones' (two Nexus 5Xs, one Samsung S21) USB-C ports fail on me unexpectedly, and without wireless charging suddenly I can't charge the phone. I'm unlikely to buy a phone without wireless charging for that

For JavaScript there's been a sharp increase in the amount of tooling that is written (or rewritten) in Rust: Turbopack, SWC, Vite's upcoming rewrite of roll-up. It doesn't seem like it is competing with JavaScript for writin

I was at the React Rally conference where Falcon was publcly announced in August of 2015. I recall that Facebook gave a GraphQL presentation right before. It seems GraphQL was first announced publicly in February 2015.

It was because Sony had a ton of mini discs laying around since the format didn't take off. The UMD cartridges are just mini discs internally.

I wonder if the origin is related to 'crossing the Rubicon', which has a similar meaning (although perhaps less prescriptive).

It started out as one of his projects - an experiment to see if esbuild and native JS modules support in browsers could be used for development instead of webpack. It's become it's own project and has a large plugin ecosystem. The

That's correct. It's encrypted in transit, but the endpoint bridges decrypt messages then reencrypt them. IIRC you can run the bridges yourself on your own servers - Element just offers this service as well.

It's true it's a bit of a novelty. If I had a laptop in the niche you described, it would cover some of the use cases I used it on. It is much smaller and lighter than my laptop, which also has horrible battery life in Linux. It d

I can't speak to the battery life of the Librem 5. You can choose to charge the phone or not charge the phone through the NextDock 360 pop-up menu, which can help it last a little longer.

I have a NexDock 360, which I have primarily used with a Samsung S21 but also with a PinePhone. The NexDock 360 is an OK device. The battery life lasted me about 2-3 hours, which isn't long enough for me. On Android with DeX there is n

SWC is written in rust, and Babel is written in javascript, so you've proven the OP's point. Vite can be configured to use SWC. The recent conversation was about Vercel benchmarking a tuned Turbopack+SWC vs. a default Vite+Babel,
