Revolvers may look simple, but they have lots of small internal parts. More than a typical semi-auto. And they are not reliable in practice. Especially considering that most semi-auto malfunctions can be cleared in a second with tap-rack, b

COVID-19 mortality is about one order of magnitude higher than that of a regular flu, for every age group. That's a lot. And R0 is higher. And there is no vaccine. And the US botched the response with its stupid "don't test,

I suspect that cpb is without using vector operations. AVX-512 lets you run 8 generators in parallel, and you can do even better with CUDA.

Both CLang and GCC do it just fine. CLang even optimizes away unnecessary steps when upper half of one multiplicand is all zeroes like in this example.

Not so much because they are fast, though, but because they produce more evenly distributed (less clumpy) numbers.

If you need the speed of this PRNG, you probably don't want the overhead of calling a library function. Instead you would implement it in place with AVX-512 or equivalent for the platform you're running on.

In many Monte-Carlo algorithms random number generation is responsible for a significant chunk of total runtime. Modern PRNGs like Xoshiro256+ implemented with AVX are much faster than any CSPRNG.

15 minutes is the US thing. Everyone else is ok with retaliating later. Maybe weeks later. UK and France rely on submarines. China even stores warheads and missiles separately. It's unnecessary and dangerous to try to decide the fate o

If you can't modify the original list, you can create another as you iterate. But that will require extra O(N) memory, so is worse than the textbook solution with two pointers.

How would you end up there? With a loop, head+1 would point to head after the first pass, so you'll end up at the head. With no loop, head+1 would only be passed once.

Iterate over the list, re-tying it backwards as you go. If you reach the end, there's no loop. If the order is important, you can re-tie again, still in O(N) time. If you end up at the head, there's a loop.
