In case you missed it, that was a list of the upsides of the Trump presidency. He certainly hasn't done anything like turn 3rd world countries into slave-trading hellhole failed states. Wouldn't want someone like that in a positio

Any ideas for "bite", if trade sanctions aren't enough?

Maybe, but that depends if you think trade action against China, and drawing attention to the increasing oppression of the citizens of Hong Kong, is ineffectual. Do you have any proposals?

Trump is un-necessarily provocative towards China, or is weak on China? Which is it?

They're only several hundred years late - us Brits have been using yeast to clean up our water into nice safe beer for a long time!

The trick was getting the identity-based discrimination into the rules. It seems Reddit overestimated the number of people who fully agree with the modern definitions of identity based on perceived oppression.

Reddit just boarded the one-way express to crazy town. How can that policy possibly be enforced? Even if they do decide on some workable definition of what "majority groups" are, and how to prove which group you are in, I can'

Exactly what I was thinking - I don't see how this approach will work in practice with the time it takes to find and positively identify a Covid-19 case, as the chain of contacts will become enormous.

I think recent news is showing that a practical implementation of New Zealand's approach is not sufficient to acheive the required containment goal.

No mention of Devuan, a fork of Debian for the sole purpose of removing systemd (and they're also not a fan of dbus, for reasons that escape me).

So what would happen if renewable energy was the only choice? I guess most would have to dig a bit deeper.

It's a question of scale, and balance. Yes, I think it is ridiculous to ask for donations to keep unwanted dogs alive when there are people on the same island who are suffering.

If there is any correlation between current events and bitcoin price, then we have both a monetary and an existential crisis happening. What other crises would bitcoin be useful in?

Last I checked, "real" PoS was at least a year away, and receding fast. The current testnets are so lacking in functionality I'm not sure they can be called PoS.

The seeds might not be sterile, but you will probably not get the same breed of plant. A lot of mass-produced veg is grown as an F1 hybrid, and the next generation (ie, from the seeds) will not have the same desirable characteristics.

Agreed, the US system is flawed. I suppose with public-funded healthcare, everyone is on the same level - the survival rates of breast cancer and bowel cancer is the same for all (unless you can afford to fly to the US and pay for care ther

Public health systems, well-funded or not, are not a cure-all. I'd be curious to hear if you have any examples - if anything, they are reliant on research funded by the huge amount of money sloshing around the US healthcare system. Giv

Indeed. The mpg per person for a modern passenger plane is better than the average US car (assuming a single-person journey by car). The most important factor here is miles travelled, not the mode of transport used.
