Subarus have head gasket problems and in the community of Subaru owners it's just a given that you're going to replace gaskets pretty often.

I drove a 2wd pickup for years in a mountain town and I did ok. But now I have 4wd and it's great. It's not necessarily a crutch, but it can become one if one isn't smart about how they drive.

It snows heavily but infrequently here. I love 4wd for when I have to get somewhere on unplowed roads. I'm a very cautious driver. It's also nice for to / from the ski lifts in sketchy weather.

Pre-2000 Toyota anything. 4wd required, then get an older Rav4. I prefer 4Runners but you're not going to get 30mpg. If you can get by without 4wd, then get a Camry. Best car ever made in terms of reliability / maintainability and

That tradeoff is worth it to me because driving on the freeway every day is nerve wracking and soul destroying.

I haven't met a single one of my coworkers. About 4 of them are scattered around the US, the rest are in Europe, India and Southeast Asia.

Yeah after talking about it here, it immediately made sense to me to combine them. I've thought about just banking some income for a couple of months and buying the best equipment I can afford and then starting something. Also it'

Good luck finding skilled developers to work under these conditions. Workers will go to the companies that respect them and offer the most freedom. Example, I've been working remote for years now and will never go back into the office.

Almost all of my best work is done while I'm out taking a walk. I leave my desk and the problem solves itself.

I do this already. It's a wonderful part of life, it's just not enough to cure some of the internal stuff I have going on. The treatment is helping a lot, it's just a long slow process, I have a lot of junk to work through.

I've thought about doing something like this. I have the income to buy all the equipment I could need, sprayers etc. Was also looking into pressure washing.

Thank you, it's good advice. I also have a problem where current job is easy, but requires almost nothing. The lack of work makes me anxious and they've been laying people off in the company.

I'm being treated and it's helping but it's not an immediate solution, it takes time. In the meantime, I simply lack the capacity that I once had.

I'm downright awful at the interview game and it causes me so much anxiety that I turn into a complete moron when I have to code in front of someone. Also the process involves completely different skills than the job actually requires.

I don't know what you're on about. WFH saves me so much time and energy that I can commit a lot more to things that are way more interesting and fulfilling than work. Now I can hang out with people I care about, focus on my Jiu Ji

You can call but I might be taking a dump or something. If you chat, I'll answer within a couple of minutes. Seems more efficient to me.

Most of the company uses Windows. A few of us actually write code and are on Mac. For some reason, for me, Teams is perpetually disconnecting from the network and requiring a refresh. It's essentially become a worse email service for m

I think you are right, but it's also possible to do something purely for other's benefit without expecting reciprocation. That requires a strong center and a real purpose driving action.

1. I'm only responsible for my actions. I'm not responsible for other people's feelings. As long as I have integrity and I'm investing my time into my priorities, I'm ok. 2. The protestant work ethic is terrible and

Yes I'm on Mac and to boot, my keyboard is one of those smaller ones and I'm definitely missing some of the expected keys. I get that Emacs is customizable but it's a bit unapproachable when I want to dive into coding.

I have been using the HyperX Cloud 2 for years now. It's extremely comfortable; I don't like in-ears because they hurt. Also, audio quality is quite good and the mic is decent too. Lots of gaming headsets have boomy bass but these

Sometimes I have to write code that I don't fully understand before I sit down to type it in. This happens less often as I've become more experienced, but at such times I find it useful to code on paper in order to scratch out rel
