The thought that apparently some employers think it is a good idea to spy on their employees on such an invasive and unethical level makes me sick. Not to mention that the lack of trust in such a company has probably eroded productivity a l

People who truly think this is any useful kind of metric are probably the ones who think # lines of code written = productive work. Or, as Bill Gates put it so nicely, they are measuring the progress on the aircraft by its weight.

I disagree. If you have too much, you can always filter. If you have too little, you're blind.

Can you calculate that hash (of the original binary) yourself and patch THAT in the function?

I disagree. This is about the conflict on keeping a LIn profile he feels like is valueless just because it is the social norm to have one, and everyone is doing it.

Off-topic but I'm looking to launch a side project myself, and I like the inspiration in this thread. Does anyone have some advice on how to 'get out of your bubble' and find an interesting problem someone has that is worth s

I don't get it. How does Alpaca offer free broker services?

Thanks so much for saying this. Those thoughts hold me back when I'm thinking about starting an open source project. I already do lots of coding at work. I'm single and no kids, but spending a large amount of time on it in my free

Adding to the points of others, you also feel "watched". In a real meeting, it doesn't feel like there is a spotlight on your face the whole time.

Second that. Would additionally recommend the fzf for fuzzy reverse history search. Absolute gold

Funny that you need a third-party tool to do that, isn't it.

One blog post per day? That's crazy. How do you come up with so much content? Here I am, wanting to start a blog for months already but not having any ideas on what to write about. lol.

Not speaking from experience here, but I don't think it's the same. I'm guessing there's a churn of people, so no long-term relationships, also since you're not working on the same thing you have less of a connectio

Honestly, I don't see what a non-semantic scheme brings to the table. In SemVer, you can (theoretically) infer compatibility from the version number. A date tells you nothing.

That's 9 lines of code vs. 3, and one additional variable. Cognitive load from lots of verbosity like this adds up.

As a junior software engineer I wonder, how do you get started with contract work, and how do you keep getting clients? Is it all networking?

Interesting. Is it possible to integrate this as a git difftool instead? Sometimes you want to include the cell output in the repository.

Very interesting project. I love that this allows you to transparently switch "runtime" from local to cloud, like spark does, but integrated with common python tools like sklearn/tf etc. Looking forward to test metaflow out m

This is a perfect addition for the fish shell, to fill the incremental reverse search gap. Highly recommend.

Out of curiosity, what makes lighting such a hard business? I have given the issue some thought as well. f.lux integration with Hue is great, but unfortunately not a solution for me, as I'd have to keep my windows pc running all day.

Regardless of whether the monolith or microservices approach is the right way to go for their use case: I could very well imagine that it is too late for such a migration, and that it would hold them back for too long.
