This is wonderful, thank you. It’s true that as a parent that comes more easily, most of my job is to help him mature into an independent and self-reliant person. Good reframing.

The selling of sovereign infrastructure to foreign actors is a failure of regulation. I’m baffled as to why that was approved.

I understand. It’s a great reply. To my dismay, I’ve never worked in a place like the first one you’ve described. Managers have certainly been confident enough in me to just let me ship stuff I built alone, or obviously that a team built wi

I’m testing this as well, but I’ve no idea people are getting good results out of Claude. What a waste of money… it’s incredible. It will get stuck on everything: basic string substitution, trying to install Python dependencies in a Node pr

I’ve never been asked for coverage as a metric or target, at least not by managers. Most of the… drudge that you describe seems to come from fellow developers. These are self-inflicted wounds by the “journeyman idealists”, making us all per

Many (most? all?) of the payment systems I’ve used over the years can interop with Visa or Maestro. Case in point: my Bancontact cards can pay in any Belgian business even if they can’t afford the better machines that do VISA, but my card a

I don’t see why they can’t just piggyback on existing, proven solutions such as Bancontact, Carte Bleu, etc., which are all based on a card running on its own network. If it’s app-based, we’re excluding quite some citizens from it.

I went from CTO to unemployed to stay-at-home dad. It taught me something about myself as a manager: I wasn’t trying to micro-manage and was pretty hands-off, but I always had a small voice in my head saying I could do things better myself.

Interesting, it’s one of very few movies I went back to rewatch because it was such a great cinematic experience. Maybe I was more forgiving to it because it was a new format and a new take on the story of Spider-Man (who’s a great superher

I agree with sibling that Kurosawa does this very well. My take: Marvel movies have a loooot going on. That might just be draining after a while, since the human brain isn’t wired for constant arousal. Old school action movies are still q

I don’t understand why. Surely the person likely to install Lineage will simply avoid modern Samsung phones, whereas the average user remains unaffected. So all Samsung gets is a tiny drop in sales and worse public image amongst some users?

From my (limited) experience, that magic is incredibly linked to autonomy and ownership. Some research around British government workers found higher job satisfaction in units with hands-off managers. It resonates with my own career. I’m re

This is a bit slandering, no? Cargill is a key supplier of arachidonic acid, and let’s say that’s where Nestlé gets it. Are they at fault for Cargill’s sourcing of Chinese ARA/DHA? Okay, they are, let’s say. But why are you buying vi

Well, that J over there might be the trick. In keto I wouldn’t use jelly. I ate whatever fats and bits of protein I wanted, but it turns out that you’re full all the time and end up eating less (~2.2k calories vs my median of 2.6k).
