Given that fully driverless Model Ys and Cybercabs have been spotted going around Austin, I find that the "they are not on a path to becoming a real service" is a little too strongly worded.

Both of these can be true at the same time: * Elon has been making wildly exaggerated and over-optimistic claims for a decade and continues to do so * Tesla has recently made huge strides in capability and has a clear path to full autonomy

True but the comment I replied to mentions a different case where a Waymo got stuck for half an hour at a parade.

I don't understand how these cars keep getting stalled for half an hour or something. Surely there must be a team of teleoperators ready to jump in at any time?

EREV is different from diesel-electric in that the EREV has a large battery whereas the diesel-electric locomotive does not. But the "ICE engine drives a generator which drives a motor" philosophy is similar in spirit.

I feel like the home depot website is fine. It's a lot better than most other shops, I've had a good experience finding the aisle and location of items, and it's generally accurate with the amount in stock at each location. I

Rivians have been spotted with giant Velodyne VLS-128 "Alpha Puck"s since several years ago [1]. But from last I checked, Rivian's ADAS is still struggling with ping-ponging in lanes on curved stretches, and it only works on

Volkswagens get serviced frequently. Teslas never get serviced, and they don't really use their brakes either due to regenerative braking, so stuff like "rust on brakes" counts as a strike against their "reliability"

It was mildly annoying how en.wikipedia.org would redirect to en.m.wikipedia.org on mobile, but en.m.wikipedia.org wouldn't redirect to en.wikipedia.org on desktop. So when a mobile user sent me a link, I had to go and manually delete

Blender is really an amazing case study of open source software. Apart from the Linux kernel and web browsers/tools, it is perhaps the only open source software that managed to beat all the commercial software in its niche. It has rend

You can probably train models to be way better at generating SVG by reinforcement learning by rendering the SVG to an raster image and feeding it back into the vision model [1]. Same with, say, generating HTML/CSS webpages. I wonder if

I don't expect this unit to be much more efficient than a $1800 home depot heat pump water heater. On the other hand, installation seems to include a hot water return line and return pump (the pump itself would be another $300 on home

One time in China (in 2018) I ran my own OpenVPN instance on a Linode VPS in Singapore, and then it got blocked within a couple of days lol. I'm guessing it was deep packet inspection.

Sounds like you're using a totally different type of water heater (tankless) and not a heat pump water heater (which has a tank, so even if the fuse pops, the water won't get cold instantly).

Interesting but federal tax credits for heat pump water heaters is ending next month [1]. It looks nice though. For people wondering what's up with the "150 gal virtual" capacity, it's actually a 47 gal water heater but

LLMs can't "look" at the rendered HTML output to see if what they generated makes sense or not. But there ought to be a way to do that right? To let the model iterate until what it generates looks right. Currently, at work, I
