Hi! Author here. It's true that my method can get complex very fast depending on what you want to do. I also wrote this to explain some concepts about git / docker. If I were running more than 1 web service I would maybe take the

I would definitely not do it that way in a more serious project. But for side projects that don't have a ton of traffic I found it's perfectly fine (and faster) to just build the container on the prod server. The website for which

Yes! I have personally used CapRover[0], which is similar. This post also has the objective of teaching some git concepts and showing other ways to do things, but I would also recommend using something like CapRover/Dokku to start with

I love piku! I’ve never had the chance to use it, but I’ve read a significant part of the code, and its philosophy has influenced my approach to devops!

I also use Kubernetes at work and somewhat agree with your point, but there are a few downsides. The method I explain in this post takes 5 minutes to set up in any VPS, 1 minute if you have a template to copy-paste. You can maybe do the sam

I don’t use ORMs. For bigger apps, I use asyncpg and map the results to Pydantic objects. I write raw SQL and keep Pydantic objects as the “source of truth” throughout my app.

Other people have already mentioned great things about FastAPI (documentation, data validation, good performance, easy to use, etc). There's also a lot to love about Pydantic alone. For me, the best thing about Pydantic is that I get p

From a personal point of view, FastAPI and Pydantic are some of the greatest additions to the Python ecosystem lately. Apart from that, FastAPI is currently the top 3 web framework according to the Python developer survey[0]. I think having

I have been using Cloudflare pages for some time, only for small sites[0]. Today I also moved my main blog[1] to it. Both pages are small, so this is not a serious review. I moved from Netlify. The main reasons are DNS and analytics. I alre

Yes, if a dataset keeps growing, the whole bloom filter will eventually become 1s. If you know the (approximate) expected size of your dataset and the probabilities of false positives you can tolerate, you can calculate how big the filter s

This is my exact feeling. I have a Hugo-powered blog, but like you said, I miss the ability to draft something quickly when I'm inspired. Right now, the best option I have found is self-hosting Ghost with some aggressive Cloudflare cac

Thanks for your comment! (I'm the author of the image/poster). At first, I wanted to give a similar explanation than yours, but then decided to make it more verbose / less technical, and it ended up having more text that I wo

Thanks for the suggestion! I had never heard about it, but like you said, it looks like an elegant, "simple" and useful algorithm. I'll definitely look into it!
