Is there a link to more info somewhere? Maybe a small link on the right of the top header? At the moment it seems a bit 'in' to just blackout without an obvious link to more info.

As an aside - it's funny how twitter memes are invariably overrun by people talking about how twitter is overrun by a meme. At the moment, "WTF Wikipedia" is full of tweets like: > bored? search for wtf wikipedia tweets. should make yo

"some technology business interests are resorting to stunts that punish their users..." I wonder if the MPAA has heard of DRM. Of course, said 'interests' have evaluated the cost of annoying their customers against the social and economic c

Really? An expected response from a foreign (uncontrolled) source brought you servers down? Are you validating responses now, or just assuming they'll never change / always be correct?

Subvert the system from within? Now that's a plan. Volunteer for the project, form a consortium to bid on the project at cost, etc. Do a thoroughly average job with lots of backdoors and subtle exploits, anonymously drip feed to the communi

Interesting that many people here think that software engineers, as a population sample, have a 'moral disposition' spread fundamentally different from any other profession. I think we all know that is not the case. Some would even go as fa

This whole spat just highlights one of those truths that's evident to those in the industry: There is no such thing as a good idea, only good execution. Being first doesn't count for anything. Having a vaguely similar name doesn't count for

The primary use of online polls, these days, appears to be for news websites to generate hooks for articles, leading to all sorts of spurious conclusions and misleading headlines. Oh wait...

Putting aside BA work, I seem to do most planning in code - ie, fleshing out an example implementation in code, mocking up some models, etc. That eventually morphs into the end result. So, don't think it's as cut-and-dry as coding OR planni

For sure, but IMHO it makes this more of an advert than 'news'. It's certainly a much nicer implementation.

This article mirrors my thoughts - Steve Jobs was truly a great business man who revolutionised consumer technology and the entertainment industry. But if we really think that these are the industries that betters humanity, we need a strong

Python minimizes magic and maintains backwards-compatibility? LOL. (I'm a programmer who recent dived into python - it's awesome and it's easily my favourite language to use now - but those statements are fallacies).

The JS can't break out of it's frame, so that doesn't really matter. The cookie comes with the request (image, html or JS, it doesn't matter).

These are limitations of specific ORMs or ORM classes, not of the concept in general. > Another point: your ORM would automatically pick up changes to your model and cope with it, not your hand-written SQL, making your code harder to ma

I don't particularly disagree with anything in that post, but the fact is that the code time saved with an ORM is so massive, that NOT using one is effectively gross premature optimization. Sure, as your app grows, you write SQL to speed up

The only code that I've ever been happy with was module code I open sourced. It took a lot of time, use and feedback to get there. Hard to argue that it was really worth the time, except for my own pride.
