It's depressing to see your comment at -1. I guess there are lots of framework lovers here :/

It's ok, but pdf's already show up in google, and are already readable in browser.

I think the whole HTML5 thing was a big PR exercise to improve the way they are seen. Possibly also a big play to get acquired - "We're doing cool stuff with fonts! Buy us!". Fundamentally though, they're about locking away documents behind

Any sane developer will track money in lowest units - eg cents. Rather than Dollars.

Way easier than C syntax. Even though I have long mastered various assembly languages and higher level languages, C pointers and their arithmetic still confuses me. There's nothing worse than something like bar = *[&foo + 88] or whateve

int[] is fairly tight. If you're going for performance or optimum memory usage, using lists and boxing isn't going to be a good plan. I once wrote an x86 emulator in java and later an ARM emulator (long story). It ran fast enough :)

Memory usage is fairly moot, and will just become more and more moot. When you're watching a 3d projected HD video with 5.1 audio on your smartphone, what's using the memory... A few pointers? Or the actual media? And in any event, we'll li

One of the problems with the Karma thing is it's ridiculously simple to gain karma. Unless you're deliberately being stupid. All you have to do is say something you believe will fit in with the groupthink of the community. The first step to

HN isn't Reddit..... yet. When the front page is full of pro-drugs/pro-gay marriage/liberal propaganda/etc then we'll be there.

I thought about (and setup a prototype) starting an ebay competitor a few years ago now. The main thing it was going to do differently, was instead of having a fixed ending time for an auction, it would be conducted like a regular auction -

When does Reddit stop being a "YC startup"? FWIW I'd rather not see political stories like this on HN.

Ridiculous. You can't even type on a tablet properly or angle the display. Again, I would say that in 99% of cases, people who buy a tablet are not buying it instead of a laptop, but as well as.

That's just ridiculous. Is this theonion.com ? Step outside the bubble for a second. Most people don't have tablets, and don't want tablets.

Well, anecdotally, I did. I built a minimum viable product as a 'side project'. I had money to run it for a year before I needed to monetize. It worked for me. It means I use 1/10th the number of machines/bandwidth of one of my competitors.

"Lesson: If you think you should build it, not buy it, you’re wrong" That's bad advice IMHO. There is far more value to building than buying - the amount you learn, and the extra optimization you can put in there. If you have the luxury of

People have been saying flash is dead for the last 5 years. If not 10 years. Don't get me wrong, I hate flash, think it will die eventually , and wouldn't build anything on it. But I also hate kneejerk decisions based on a tiny amount of

Yeah because there's only a bajillion existing flash capable browsers out there. But apparently the 'hip' crowd are buying iPads! ;) FWIW though, I'd choose HTML5 over Flash, but not on the basis of this datapoint - for all the other more i

Same in the UK. Sales tax in the US is just ridiculous. I've never understood why they would prefer things that way.
