Yes, I have been talking about the UK for this thread. Perhaps I should have been clearer. Sockets do not exist in bathrooms in the UK.

Sockets do not exist in bathrooms. If they do, they're special 'shaver' sockets purely for electric razors. Hairdryers are usually used in bedrooms. The last time I tripped over a cable was..... years ago. I can't even remember doing it. It

Lamps seem very prevalent in the US. Why do most apartments I've been in not have ceiling lights? WTF? When I lived in the US I'd go in a room and spend a while finding 4 lamps and turning them on. Same in hotels. Also, when you decide to p

True, but OTOH, if you stand on a US one, the pins will often get bent. Best thing is to avoid standing on plugs :)

Those are all minor inconveniences compared with: * trip up a cable, and the plug falls out of the wall (Pulling a UK plug out required force. It will not pull out) Plus the cable exits a plug pointing downward, which means

The last thing we want is to be 'in sync' with Europe. We're British. Not European.

That's not really fair. Given a choice between US plugs (spark, fall out of sockets, flimsy, dangerous, bendy pins), and UK plugs (Built to last, don't spark, fused, solid) I know which I'd choose. There's also large advantages to having ea

Has anyone not seen this already? It was posted on Reddit a few years ago. It's been posted on HN twice already, it's gone around twitter. Are you all new to the internet?

That "Manic Monday" by the Bangles was written by Prince. Oh also that "Monopoly" is an American invention (I assumed it was as British as the Queen).

It's because they list out "Contact HMRC and register for PAYE" as taking 8 days, and they seem to think you can't actually trade before that's done. Which is idiotic. So the study is pretty inaccurate.

This is very inaccurate. For example, starting a business in the UK takes an hour or so (Fill out a form online). But it's listed here as taking 13 days, and thus UK is ranked 16th for starting a business.

You should watch "The Producers". The best way to sterilize some figure like Hitler, is to make fun of them and create comedy from them. Words don't mean much, nor does karma.

...or people who can't do CAPTCHAs. I regularly have to retry CAPTCHAs 3 or 4 times because they are utterly illegible. Sometimes I just give up and move on. Maybe I'll build a bot to help me solve CAPTCHAs!

I've been reverse engineering code for a living for 10 years or so, and writing assembly code for 20 or so. I don't have the time to provide examples I'm afraid, so take it or leave it ;)

> "JavaScript doesn't have blocks" I think what you mean to say is that Javascript doesn't have block scope for variables. It has blocks.

I don't quite understand what you mean by 'returning from a script'. That doesn't make too much sense within Javascript itself, if it's a case of the last expression being considered the return value (I haven't used NodeJS), then you would

var a = x:1 This is invalid. Stop guessing. Read the language spec. Best by far is "Definitive Javascript O'Reilly" {} is a block of statements. For example, {doSomething();doAnotherThing()} {} when used as an expression, i
