The title is far too generous. They've only launched a single spacecraft so far which failed due to communications issues. They're planning to launch a second spacecraft in Q4 this year which will fly by an asteroid and take pictu

I get the same impression. Not identical but the whole temporal API seems heavily influenced by Java. Having worked with dates and times in both Java and JavaScript, I'm very happy with what I see in the temporal API. Huge improvemen

There's one aspect I don't understand of how the gel "learns" . What are the factors for positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement? How does the gel "know" what is a good result and what is a bad result

A high quality 4k stream is about 20mbit/sec. 16k resolution would only have 16x the amount of pixels. Assuming bitrates scale proportionally to resolution, that would only be 320mbit/sec. So if you want to max out a 1tbit connect

If corporations got their way, nothing would run locally anymore. Everything would run in the cloud and our devices would be nothing more than thin clients.

It's not a complete fallacy. In events like this, after the news hits, there are a flurry of eyeballs looking, at least for a little while. The heartbleed bug got people to look at the openssl code and realize what a mess that code is.

Soooooooo are they finally going to add all the missing configurations in the settings app? Because there's still *a lot* you can only configure from control panel.

I wish we could all live like this, but realistically out of reach for most people who live paycheck to paycheck. It would be great for the economy, more people out vacationing, spending money, would create more jobs.

Great video! I love the simple straightforward presentation, it explains the concepts so well. The many applications of cams continue to impresses me. The fundamentals of mechanical computers go back much further, well into the 1800s and po

That's increasingly no longer true. For many new smart TVs, you literally can't use them until you connect them to the internet.

Not quite the same. It sounds like netboot downloads the images from over the Internet. Whereas Ventoy you preload the images onto a flash drive ahead of time.

I have hard drives which are 15 years old that still work just fine. Yeah, hard drives do fail, that's why you use RAID5 or RAID6. 8TB HDDs can be had for around $100 each. Four of these in RAID5 gives you 24TB. That's enough to b

Are hard drives such a terrible solution? Setup a RAID5 or RAID6 array and you could easily backup thousands of DVDs for less than $1000.

I've had so many dreams where it seemed like my brain was simulating some unusual social situation so that I would know how to behave and react in such a situation in real life. Especially situations that may cause stress or anxiety.

It's a very hard market to get into these days when you don't already have millions of users. The problem is, if someone signs up for your app and there are only a few other people using the app in the same area, it's not ver

Are there any US fabricators of ARM chips? Any fabricators in any Western nation? If not, Intel could have tapped into the markets for defense and national security.

Not completely accurate, it depends on your definition of smoothness. The Earth scaled down to the size of a billiard ball would have a texture more like sandpaper, certainly not what most people would consider smooth.

AI isn't being marketed to consumers. AI is being marketed to investors. Regardless of whether or not it boosts sales, so long as it keeps driving up the stock price, they'll keep tossing around the word AI.

Things like this are rarely simple or obvious. I don't know what potential gotchas there could have been, but I'm sure there were strange and unusual things they had to carefully consider before making this an official standard.

The Japanese were ruthless and barbaric during WW2. Too few people know the full extent of the atrocities committed by Japan during that time. https://youtu.be/18Xe9HqW8Q4
