Chrome is notoriously power inefficient, though, relative to Safari at least. One would think developers would notice.

HN has never been that narrow, in my experience. I don't recall ever seeing a day on HN without something of mere general science interest (although I've only been here since '09.) Come to think of it, there are HN guidelines

Non-technical? Do you think maybe the cause of insect collapse is related to something other than a tradeoff that came along with the use of pesticide technology? What's your hypothesis?

I was under the impression that, in the case of corn at least, harvesting for silage or for grain was an either/or proposition. That is, if the crop is struggling and you don’t expect much yield as grain, then you might want to harvest

I suspect that the underlying reason that the profile switch happens, though, is because of bandwidth limits. That’s what Sennheiser is telling their customers, at least. https://sennheiseruk.happyfox.com/kb/article

It’s definitely a Bluetooth audio thing. I can hear mine shift into a lower quality audio when I use them for conference calls. (There’s a limited amount of bandwidth and it has to make room for bidirectional audio.)

None of these symptoms are normal. I’ve had mine since they launched. On 2 or 3 occasions I’ve had some other issues, but they quickly went back to normal after doing stuff like re-pairing, or rebooting my phone.

I was surprised at how quickly I went from slack-jawed amazement to wondering why the creators were so enamored with making a character run out of the frame that they never demonstrated using this to animate in context.

If we weren't perpetually in a state of war, that phrase would have more gravity. Maybe we should figure out how to have a few years of peace time so that people learn how to care again that we're at war.

Yeah, Civilization VI is well known to respond well to having additional cores, so I expect the lags I see in late-stage games on large maps to not be as bad as they are on my 1st generation iPad Pro.

This piece is to Debussy what Liebestraume No. 3 is to Franz Liszt: it's simultaneously the cloying, overplayed hit that distracts from the rest of the oeuvre, while also being the masterpiece that serious music people love to pooh-poo
