This scratches the surface of an unmatched essay by Harold Goddard called Atomic Peace. Both pieces seek a virus (or a chain reaction) that could end war, but Adams falls short. Indeed, education is not enough and can actually encourage wa

They're a ton of work, more so if you're not used to reading technical papers. It's also easy to get behind on the project, which is a very independent activity. Graduate students themselves usually only register for 2 courses a semester

What department? In CS I've found there are effectively unlimited opportunities for learning and exploration (if you have the basic knowledge needed to navigate the system, which while unfortunate, is the reality). I've heard General, Matse

Whoops, I meant to mention that. Creating an engaging learning experience is the most difficult option of all. It needs to be done, but there are steps that should be taken in the mean time in order to a more fair (but admittedly suboptimal

Finishing up my undergrad at UIUC. A notable fraction of students in each course do cheat. I see two courses of action: (1) we could take the hard road and seek to catch all dishonest students and punish them or (2) we could make cheating

Um, the Commerce Clause didn't unilaterally impose ObamaCare on the country. What? I never claimed that it did. It simply (arguably) authorized Congress to pass legislation regulating health care. Yes, key word arguably. What we're arg

To be honest, the language doesn't really matter. The US government can already do all of the things in the bill under the Commerce Clause in the Constitution. Note how the Commerce Clause is used as the justification for requiring that ci

Jacques your rhetoric on Wikileaks is quite frankly awful. Here are some specific pieces I take issue with: The mere existence of information that more than just a very few people have access to almost guarantees a leak and eventual public

If the conversation was about anything else, using only the word of Joe Lieberman as proof would be a joke. I'm honestly shocked that you think my standards are exacting.

Did you even bother to read the post I wrote? The thrust of the argument is that no paper is the best judge. In fact, newspapers are categorically unqualified to make judgments in this case.

If that's the best "proof" you have, it's not even worth discussing. Amazon explicitly denied that they booted Wikileaks because of Lieberman. Lieberman isn't even saying that either. He's claiming that his staffers, were informed by Amazon

You're attempting to make the argument that newspapers (most of which are not even American) can make accurate judgements about the effects of releasing US intelligence. That's a poor argument. What is it about news agencies that qualifies
