It also requires instructions in order to figure out the quickdial function... which is more than I've ever needed for my iPhone. (BTW my toddlers can work iOS devices just fine.)

The problem with doing this is that if your customers find out they're likely to be pissed off. If this doesn't matter to you then feel free.

Ah so it's OK to charge people you don't like (wrong skin color say) more because it's a free market? There's a difference between giving bulk discounts and selling the same product for different prices to different customers.

Actually Preview lets you do a lot of the things you'd want to do with an image editor and -- unlike MS Paint -- what it does, it does very well. It's a much better PDF and image editor than, for example, TextEdit is a text editor.

The New Yorker is pretty much the standout print publication of our age (certainly in the US). Expecting everyone to be this good is understandable but unrealistic.

HTML5 <video> may be in its infancy, but H264 is a huge established technology, and tossing it out will be painful for a lot of people. The best possible outcome of this exercise (and to its credit perhaps this is Google's intention

How is supporting arbitrary codecs via the <video> tag any different from supporting arbitrary fonts through CSS font-family?

The thing which amazes me about Facebook is how perplexing the basic UI is and remains. My wife will tell me "hey someone has made a comment on your wall you HAVE to reply to it" and it will take me five minutes to figure out where this com

No, the problem here isn't supporting _devices_ but OSes. If you flag your app as v4 (correctly) anyone who wants to use it can upgrade to v4 and use it. No fragmentation. Under Android it's a dog's breakfast just on that point, forget scre

If I may wax polemic... Here's Adobe/Macromedia's fairly recent tech history: * Use AS2, so much better than AS * Use AS3, so much better than AS2 and soon to be the ES Standard. Whoops! * Use our new 3D API, it sucks less than our non-3D A

The problem is inadequately defined. Basically it depends on whether you expect to have to record more than 32000 / 14 = 2200 or so values, in which case simply keep a sorted list of the actual integers using a sorting/insertion algorithm o

There's an insight here and a fallacy. The insight is that behavior is more interesting and flexible than content. The fallacy in the title is the idea of a "level" entirely encapsulating the gameplay opportunities. The point is that the ga

It's surprising to me that a programming language would have started out following engineering conventions rather than mathematical conventions, even if there's a strong overlap between EE and CS. That said (and speaking as a mathematician)

My problem with this design is that it doesn't provide coverage for the pins making it less safe. A similar design which included the shield but tilted the pins could retain most of the safety characteristics of the standard design without
