I have that issue too. But for literature it’s something more primal. Fiction feels like the ultimate distillation of the human experience. A way to share perspective and experience. And having some algorithm flatten that feels utterly maca

Yeah? The sentiment of “why read something somebody didn’t bother to write” sort of has to be. And when it comes to books, I find that to be a fairly compelling argument. I want my fiction to be imbibed with the experiences of the author. A

I did the traditional blog post about this, and used it to create an RSS Aggregator website using AWS Bedrock. https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/use-language-e... The website is unfortunately down now,

I don’t know. Maybe if it’s getting a lot of traction it’s beholden on you to look up what it is. I don’t understand everything on the HN frontpage either.

I used Pocket since it was called Read-it-Later back in 2011/2010. It was one of the first things I'd install onto every device I owned. I used it until their dreadful redesign in 2023. I got a _lot_ of use out of Pocket.

While the Kobo app is still available an alternative might be: Self-Host Omnivore: https://github.com/omnivore-app/omnivore/blob/main/self-host... Use this proxy to point to the Self-Hosted instance to p

I still use the self-hosted version of Omnivore - I had built quite a lot around it so when that shut down I just decided to transfer over. It was hard enough going from Pocket to something else, I didn't want to do that again. I actua

They should be able to change it with fairly minimal changes. I managed to modify some things to proxy articles from Omnivore to it, and the functionality remained largely the same across the two services. They'd have to implement some

It is Self-Hostable. I worked on the self-hosting stuff. Follow the guide here if you're interested: https://github.com/omnivore-app/omnivore/blob/main/self-host...

I actually don't necessarily think that's true - As someone that has a bit of a background with the codebase of Omnivore I think the thing that killed that wasn't necessarily the business model (let's be real, they didn&

I used it to save things, and read it on multiple devices. The readability view was never my chief concern. There was also a period in the history of Pocket where they had influential people share their stories, and shared the top stories o

I loved Pocket. I used it nearly daily. I was often in their top n% of users. I paid for it. Then one day they changed the way their rendering worked on iOS. And it destroyed my workflow. I also bought a Kobo E-Reader specifically to use Po

I built an rss aggregator with semantic search using embeddings. The main usage was being able to categorise based on any randomly created category. So you could have arbitrary categories https://github.com/aws-samples/

It wasn't vibe coded, I just don't work at AWS anymore. I can't update the link now. And the environment it was deployed to has been destroyed. It literally has the entire IaC stack for you to deploy it yourself.

I want to say, a lot of effort has been made recently to allow you to Self-Host Omnivore. I have done a lot to move it over so that all the features are self-hostable, including rewriting the entire PDF stack. I received a lot of support fr
