Sure, that's true and I think people who don't pay the taxes that support the firemen should be ashamed of themselves and forced to pay. Similarly, I think firemen should be trained well and paid for the risk they are taking on. That being

In some places, fire protection is apparently up for debate. This family had their house burn down because they failed to pay the $75 tax. It's only fair after all: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/tennessee-family-home-b... I think i

I remember reading a story about a man who was knocked unconscious by a group of kids as he was riding past them on a bicycle not too long ago. That story followed a similar trajectory including the writer not pressing charges under the con

Looks like Jason Hoffman has stepped into the forums to explain the reasoning behind their decision and do some damage control: http://discuss.joyent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=240955#p240955 They probably should have done that on the original

I was (am?) also a TextDrive VCII customer. I signed up in March of 2005 and had a little home on a server called nelson. If my memory is correct it was around $450 or so and I hemmed and hawed over the decision. I was just getting out of t

If you're consuming an API you use whatever the platform decides on. In that case, this library is helpful. However, I think the real open question is: if you are providing an API, what do you choose?

Pretty cool but another thing missing from this is the dynamic lighting. If you make an enclosed space it's just as bright inside as daylight. The lighting in minecraft is simple but extremely effective. Here's a nice demo/test from Notch f

I hope it doesn't come off as too harsh. I mean it in a good-natured way and obviously you're putting forward your ideas which is a good thing. Why do you think the term 'variable' is the source of confusion and 'property' is better? If so,

One could draw a lot of parallels between OpenStack/AWS and Android/iOS development. It is in the best interest of an OpenStack provider to differentiate their offering rather than compete on price through the common platform. Just like how
