That really stinks . It's not the original Aroma, but there's often a certain odor in the air in the morning. Not that other major cities don't have issues there too.

I would like to see Tacoma, WA take this route. There's a lot of cheap housing there, and it's close enough to Seattle to be able to reasonably haul in some of the software engineers that might be a bit more financially constraine

I would agree that there exists a distinct and mostly disjoint set of people: flaggers vs debaters, to use the OP's terminology. I don't see that tension going away. It's certainly a long-standing tension online. I disagree f

I consider that spectacularly dumb, but it's a second order problem caused by the lack of legal recognizance of contacts signed by minors.

Adulting is not evil; it is a consequence of discharging your responsibility and functioning as a human being. Kids will be kids, that has nothing to do with responsibility. I could ask my child to go to work - he'll be completely

It's very hard to compare a hunter gatherer / traditional village society to the modern urban & educated society and have meaningful takeaways. The crux of the matter is the requirement for responsibility. Rather than have thi

There aren't very many DBAs practicing in modern shops and devs don't seem to be too into SQL and delivering excellent SQL queries and schemas. It's its own skillset. I would also call out the NoSQL hype train here. NoSQL ha

Don't read your page. Expect your students to read the page. Then go deep and discuss concepts in-class. Keep homework interesting , but don't ask for more than 1/wk or expect hours to be willingly ground out on make-work pr

Broad agreement about the network parity aspect. If you can have a working TCP/IP stack /and/ can run Chrome, you have the ability to pretty much be "usable" by many users. I'd like to stop the argument there t

I realized this evening I should have said Lisp/Smalltalk. I would also agree regarding market conditions. One other thing, since this textbox is here and you're contemplating similar thoughts: the Modula-2/Oberon OS system

AWS has excellent customer service offerings after a certain price point. I would check the "Business" and "Enterprise" plans for examples of how to get the good support. You get an account manager rep and upon occasion,

Oh, DOS. It's always sad to read histories of computing during the 80s. It was a lost decade in many ways. Much more powerful and competent paradigms were alive and vital at the start, but by the end, they were all collapsing. A few di
