Also, if you're doing it all over again after a respectable exit, you're more likely to keep going for the really big prize. Which is what investors are after.

I'm only just getting into OpenCL (I already know OpenGL very well) and I'd say OpenCL's programming language is closer to C than to GLSL. In any case, I'd say the hard part is parallelising your algorithms, understanding the memory model (

Self-signed certificates don't prevent MITM attacks on connecting unless you've transmitted the certificate securely out-of-band and installed it in the client's browser. (which practically never happens with sites on the open internet) T

I already use that for some stuff, it gets rather expensive for vast amounts of data, and I've already got spare HDD space on servers.

Does anyone know of a similar setup that allows client-side encryption as well, with some nodes (those in the cloud) acting only as dumb storage that never sees the encryption keys? The only thing I'm aware of is drbd, which acts at the blo

NFS doesn't mirror the remote data to the local disk, whereas glusterfs allows exactly that (plus some more stuff). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GlusterFS

According to Heise (German) they do use Sandy Bridge chips[1]. Apple sometimes receive chips from Intel that aren't available outside of Macs, but other than that, the exact model should be possible to work out - you've got clock speed, i5

While their analysis may or may not be valuable, it's completely useless to the public as long as they don't publish their data. I think the ranking is probably secondary to collating all the data and other information they've dug up in one

Wow, a couple of years ago it would have seemed unthinkable that a company like EA would release some of their code as open source. Only very few major game companies released code back then (I can think of only id and Insomniac).

For reasons given above, such a tutorial would necessarily have to be specific to whatever you're trying to embed it in, or maybe at a raw framebuffer level (which isn't terribly useful unless you really are working at that level). Otherw

For embedding a web page display, you're probably best off looking at Webkit/Gecko wrappers for whatever UI toolkit you're using. Getting an image out of the renderer itself is one thing, but tying it into the surrounding windowing environm

Looks nice! I recently used node to add a web interface to a C++ app myself and got annoyed with the amount of boilerplate code required for passing function arguments (type checking, unboxing, boxing return values) so I started a mechanism

Unfortunately, in many countries[1] you'll be prosecuted as an accessory if someone commits a crime via your connection, unless you set it up in such a way that you're legally an ISP. This is obviously a lot of trouble, so you're better off

I wouldn't call them useless, but I guess I'm used to C++, or worse, just a hex stack dump (yay, game consoles). Clojure mangles names somewhat to make them Java-compatible; you can easily do the reverse translation in your head. Still, thi

I think the issue with single-pass compilation is that you can't have a function a in namespace A call a function b in namespace B which in turn calls a, unless you've first done a forward declaration of the var(s). I can't see how the hell

It would have a positive effect on the readability and conciseness of our (SSDCache) code if we could actually use compilers supporting this. Unfortunately, we're stuck with older versions of GCC for the foreseeable future, and probably MSV

The stuff described on the first part of that page has been supported by GCC for ages. It's useful where structs and unions are deeply nested, e.g.: enum MyStructType { MyInt, MyFloat }; struct my_struct { enum MyStructType type

The last part is pretty cool (the first bit has been supported by GCC for years), though it would be even more helpful to be able to do the reverse concisely - convert a pointer to the contained struct to a pointer to the containing one. In
