Suicides amongst micro-finance customers would be a more appropriate statistic. There are clearly more widespread problems that need to be addressed, but seeing as this behaviour is a consequence of for-profit companies applying First-worl

No problem. It works too, which is even better (though I failed to get a rejection yesterday). Once I've thoroughly tested it, I'm going to introduce it to my employees.

Stunningly elegant concept. I wish I'd thought of it. Trying it now.

It's likely the founder is a visionary without a pragmatic streak. Conferences and iPhones is what you give your developers when you're too optimistic about future business. The founder is unlikely to be aware of his poor judgement. I kno

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment of this article, as someone who runs an up-and-coming software/game development company in Adelaide. However, how can they reasonably ask why Atlassian sought outside investment from a US VC firm?

Anecdotally, I've found working through and solving a difficult problem together reinforces social bonds. Even introverts crave some form of social interaction. It almost seems obvious after the fact.

I would agree that you direly need to found your own startup, but right now you need to find balance. You need to reduce your working hours. You need to work less during those hours. And you sure as hell need to forget that your stock

I agree; you are by far the most qualified to be marketing your product right now because of your passion. You also have a Facebook group that you can use as a testbed for your marketing efforts - they're already primed to listen to you, a

Yeah I've been to a couple of recent presentations - am part of it on Facebook. There are a couple of characters, but most attendees seem to either be aspiring life coaches or business parasites. I've yet to meet a programmer (at least on

Actually, I was referring to people from Adelaide, meeting up in Adelaide. My mistake. There are very few startup related events, and it would be good to meet some fellow HNers.

I hate to be cynical, but most people are going to flake out. Many people overcommit themselves, or just say "yes" because they thought it was a good idea at the time. I've experienced this sort of flakiness - and done it myself more time

Don't wait. Get an idea, get a co-founder and hit the ground running. Three years sounds like plenty of time, but it took me eight years and four failed attempts at the same goal to get where I wanted to go. You can't count on having a pe

That's a fairly brazen ripoff, though changing the plane to a Sopwith Camel is enough to escape any legal troubles. It's just a pity this is what developers resort to when they lack ideas.

Indeed, the bulk of iPhone games seem to be unashamed clones. Should it be any wonder your clone isn't doing well? If you're going to steal a mechanic (most mechanics aren't entirely original anyhow), take the time to spin it into a new co

I've noticed a recent trend in iPhone game development articles that implore, "Here be dragons, don't waste your time". Curious, I continue to read and find almost all games were developed by a single developer inside of a month . That'
