Google's ad network is pretty ubiquitous since it spans almost all the known web. Facebook is pretty big too but relies mostly on its own platform (FB, Inst etc.). For sure Google is affected, but I imagine the impact is less. Also one

The VC/Execs seem to have latched on to the idea of companies being overstaffed, and this narrative is being amplified by "tech influencers" as a way to explain layoffs. Without data to back this claim, I'm gonna treat i

It should be viewed as a cat and mouse game. The general philosophy at these orgs is that the same failures should never happen _again_. So you build automation and safeguards protecting the system from the failure modes you know. However,

I did about 30 interviews last time I was job hunting. It wasn't all at once, I would interview in waves: at most 3 final interviews a week. Doing that along with a full time job is definitely tricky, but with virtual interviews its ma

Yeah layoffs impact not just the people that leave but also those that remain. The ones that leave at least have the opportunity to move on. The people left have to worry both about the layoffs and also need to work harder. Its a bad situat

The crucial part is how its handled. If the company shows generosity during the separation, going beyond what was expected, I would certainly consider going back. If they only do the minimal required or less, probably not.

Its sort of lazy thinking, so of course a lot of people will come to the same conclusion. I mean, sure there might be people not giving their best. But most people want to do work, want their work to be meaningful, and will generally do the
