Nope. Software patents are basically bullshit and I'm glad I don't live in a country where they pose a direct threat to companies.

Why? If I spread the rumor "maybe bananas contain rat poison" and Whole Foods would stop stocking bananas, how would that in any way legitimise fears of rat poison in bananas?

FWIW because Apache is a thing, I always assume BSD/MIT means only what the license says it means. This is actually why I prefer large projects adopt Apache because it holds a lot more water by being an actual license with real legal l

There is no such thing as an implicit license, though. The absence of a license only indicates the absence of a license, i.e. no license. There is no precedent for BSD/MIT implying any patent grant. So in other words it's only the

Did we read the same article? Automattic is not worried about the license. Automattic is worried about how others perceive the license and how that will lead to WordPress being perceived. They see no risk in the license, they see risk in ho

Wait, it's orange? I was always attributing that to my colorblindness. This might explain why I sometimes have a hard time telling the red and yellow signals apart. Thank you!

I'm not sure whether you're also colorblind (experiences can differ) but I would like to disagree. The one thing that would make my life as a colorblind driver infinitely better (especially at night) are reflective frames. If ever

Interesting. I misremembered the Jenkins traffic light originally using green (I probably got confused by a plugin which changes the color) and was convinced it was a weird accessibility change. For the record: I'm green-blind and I al

IIRC a further complication in German is that the dots in ä/ö/ü started out as a small "e" on top of the letter, whereas the dots in most other Latin-based languages (e.g. in English ë) are mere accents. This is why the

I was going to be optimistic and assume they tested this on some browser and just forgot about a weird edge case only present in Chrome/Linux. Looks like they probably didn't test the banner/toast combination at all.

People who ridicule the notion of FUD causing actual harm, pay attention: this is a perfect example of the chilling effects of FUD on software projects. Automattic didn't drop React because it doesn't like the license. Automattic

On Chrome/Linux the Skillshare promo banner on the bottom obscures the toasts when something gets copied to the clipboard. You just see the upper part of a small dark rectangle.

Vue seems the obvious contender but I doubt completely replacing React with Vue this far into development would only cause a delay of a few weeks. Preact or Inferno seem far more likely, considering they won't require massive rewrites.

According to the author of Preact, that's unlikely because Preact's implementation is very different (it's not just a cleanroom implementation of the same thing). However I'd be more worried that Facebook might hold pate

Unless the microwave oven is severely damaged, the shielding should prevent any "leakage" so it's probably just psychological. If you somehow manage to remove the door and still keep it running, though, things get fun.
