I find it interesting how computing is starting to mature. It used to be something that only the latest generation was privy of. Everything was state of the art and always changing. My parents didn't understand me playing video games,

Reminds me of my state-of-the-art unwanted email filter where I redirect emails containing the words 'unsubscribe' to trash; 99% effective.

And even with just images. Last winter a saw two horses in snowy hills. It was a beautiful image. I tried to capture it with my camera but couldn't. The hills were too flat, the snow didn't have the blue hue from my memory and the

Parent comment mentioned two great disrros, Fedora and Debian to which I like to add Arch. They certainly are not unfinished toys.

I really want to second this. All games I want to play these days work under Linux without effort. Older titles work even better where under Windows you could run into compatibility issues not so under Linux because of the great effort put

I don't know where you are from and if the process is very different there but from the places I have experience with I would describe the process as, trivial.

Maybe the original author implies that you don't need to be a Richard Stallman type anymore, not to trust Google.

Interesting, Maybe it has to do with the extra analyses that the brain performs on hearing. What I hear is not the raw vibration but a amonst other things a fourier transform of it. i hear a distinct pitch. The brain uses the harmonic overt

Congratulations with your courageous step. I will really root for it, might even check out if I can contribute. I think Marginalia can have an amazing impact to the web. Right now it is dying from the cancerous growth of SEO spam and inform

ChatGPT can be usefully for many things, but you should really, not use it if you want to retrieve factual data. This might partly be resolved by querying the internet like bing does but purely on the language model side these hallucination

Wow, that is nasty. I would actually fall for that, I never thought of double checking copy/pasted data, only in cases I copied something similar before and I want to make sure I really did press copy.

It is funny that you mention it, I also had this feeling. There is very much a pattern and rhythm palpable from ChatGTP's answers. Together with an almost mathematically nuanced position. I wonder if this is inherited to the model or t

I understand that you do not want to leave your prefered editor but just wanted to sya that enabling Vim key-bindings with evil is a one line configuration. After that is feels native. I would not call it shoehorning at all.

I wonder if anybody can relate to my experience. Maybe it is just me showing my age but though I agree the visuals of modern games have become, much, more impressive I much prefer the older style. Deus Ex is a good example. The original, ma

This is true. I wonder how well the white noise videos on yt compress though. Edit: Tried using yt-dl on a 24 hour white screen video, it is 130 MB for the 'highest quality'. 10 hours of white noise it 1.55GB.

When my partner used a 10+ hour pure white video as a desklight it felt like blaspheme to me. Same as turning to gpt4 to sort a small list of words. It is unholy.

When I was a child writing games with QBasic, my simple text adventures would load up instantly. Though all the professional made games I played had loading screens. So I added a progressbar with some for loops to make my game more professi

For me, asking something on the Internet, like on stackoverflow is usually, the very last option. I am too afraid to get ridiculed for it or get scolded for not having put enough effort in my question that already feels more as a thesis. Ma

After many years I'm still pasionate about programming, still do it in my spare time and enjoy my work. But, it really does need to be in a language and platform I enjoy. I also notice that if you have a job with a more niche language
