I think the true reason for this is that software is orders of magnitude more complex than civil engineering - and everything you build is pretty much a whole new thing. It's not like there's hundreds of years of bridge design, wi

I've been making software for thirty years, and this is the most impressive and insane thing I've ever seen anyone do. I think you might do quite well.

I have come to this comment section only to implore everyone to make sure that they watch "All Watched over by Machines of Loving Grace" - and in doing so, perhaps also discover Richard Brautigan's poetry. Brautigan's st

No, they do not. They would have been much better without any images at all. The longer AI-generated images are around, the easier they are to spot, and the uglier they appear.

They do, they also require that any server you connect to is IPV6 capable because they run all their testing on an IPV6-only network. It's just more hoops to jump through, so simply avoiding it is best if you can.

Well, I don't know about borrow checkers, but scoped memory was added to C++ over a decade ago. In fact, I led the charge to remove every single new and delete from our codebase, and cause add it to the list of things disallowed by the

I know this is a typo, but I'm imagining that substraction is a form of abstraction where you take things away to make them simpler to understand.

Your writing is clear and concise. You don't indulge in run-on sentences, or hyperbole. It's an impressive piece of writing. You're definitely good at this.

I feel like promoting your own music has always been a massively uphill struggle, and the successful ones still got there by playing hundreds upon hundreds of shows. There's a huge element of luck too, who happens to hear you, whether

Yes. They will defrost and bury them. Unless things have gotten really bad, in which case they'll defrost and eat them. One thing they won't bother to do, is defrost and re-animate them, because why?

I wonder what leads people to believe that anyone in the future will be interested in applying their staggering new re-animation technologies to centuries-old frozen corpses? There's a comment somewhere in this thread about perpetual m

I know, it's awful isn't it? The irony of an article about detailed low-level optimisation of memcpy (which is probably being used unnecessarily anyway), re-implementing scrolling in javascript... You've got to admire it, rea

I implemented this once, for an animation system prior to the existence of CSS animations. It was an obvious solution, hardly worth making a big deal about. It is a very well-written and beautifully explained article though.

NZ does not have a zero covid strategy, and never did. Pretty much all of NZ's covid restrictions have been removed, and there are thousands of reported cases at the moment.
