>you're a guy with 30 years experience (I am) who is willing to work for $10/hour (I am not). I average ~40$/hr spend on Upwork for intermediate to highly skilled engineers, I think you need to market yourself better.

Synchronous condensers or smart batteries. Australia has deployed a lot of the former to deal with this problem at solar farms.

You can also over-provision solar and wind to factors well above 100%, and still be more economical than burning fossil fuels.

I think Australia will use mostly batteries, but we are building more hydro. I think hydro is miscast as being green though, when in reality it causes enormous ecological destruction. Hydro is also intermittent - it requires the right amoun

The "Victorian Big Battery" cost about 100 million to build and provides 450MWh, so at those prices the 120GWh they calculate for 5 hours would cost about 25 billion. Not outrageous in the scale of nation building projects.

Hence the overgeneration.

Cloud doesn't mean solar stops working - the decrease is 30-60% depending on thickness, but there's still very meaningful generation.

But they voted for first past the post!! In my opinion that was the defining moment that cemented the UK's decline. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_United_Kingdom_Alternativ...

Specialist subscription weather forecasting. I don't really want to make myself into a case study here - just sharing my experience that the Apple-induced small-business-advertising-pinch is very real.

I like this phrasing - I don't think users made an informed choice to be tracked, or an informed choice not to be. They were victims both times of big tech power plays.

Global, realtime, full definition satellite imagery. http://satview.skysight.io/ I have been meaning to spin this off into a SaaS. I don't know of anywhere you can actually get the full definition imagery as a slippy m

My SaaS product has problems with users sharing accounts - more than half the problematic users are Argentinians :( Inevitably I will simply have to withdraw from the market there...

As a subscription vendor, I can tell you I have never found or achieved the level of evidence required to successfully dispute a chargeback. I don't even bother anymore. This seems like a welcome change of attitude.

Getting quota with Azure is just so hard - it takes literally months, and they force you onto invoice billing. I had to build out on other platforms while waiting for trivial requests to get approved.

Well, not from producing copious quantities of tea. Globalization meant they (thought they) could specialize in growing tea and let someone else specialize in growing food. In theory - everyone wins.

I just cannot believe this is true. AWS is everywhere. And Azure is so bad in comparison. Everything is painful, from the UI to the API, and god help you if you need support. I recently waited over 2 months just to get a trivial amount of

Having been here 11 years now, IMHO HN is 90% as good as it was in 2011. Reddit has lasted pretty well too because of it's ability to shard out bigger communities into ever smaller communities, but the larger subreddits are a bit creak

Of the SaaS services my own SaaS service depends on, Postmark has given me the least (zero) problems, and I'm genuinely concerned about what will happen now. Their deliverability has always been absolutely stellar.
