This looks like a nice start for a good guide. Some hierarchy for the examples would be nice, instead of an alphabetically sorted list. There are some minor inaccuracies here and there, but overall looks alright.

Jami and Tox should mostly qualify, I believe. The hard part is bootstrapping the discovery network, I don't know if there is a true p2p way for that.

I agree. If you can, just use the make_* functions. It also reduces needless repetition. For `make_*<Widget>(args...)` I need to write the type once, for `*_ptr<Widget>(new Widget)` I need to write the same type twice. Not count

That makes sense. I agree that this is probably not cost-effective, but it could still be fun as a hobby project. > Also it wouldn't be easy to keep something in contact with the capstan to extract its energy, since the capstan/

I have an other gripe with that page: > [about std::make_shared] This function is useful because objects might throw exceptions during construction and if they do we still need to call delete on the pointer we received from new otherwise

Definitely the best C++ reference. It's not official in the sense that it is not the authoritative standard text itself, but it is very precise and complete.

How much power does it need? Could the winding mechanism provide the required power? Got to look up some specs on the maximum torque provided by the winding mechanism and the turning speed.

I was being sarcastic. I find the assertion that modern C++ is a scam hilarious. It doesn't make any sense. Who benefits from this scam? Who are the victims? The sentence is indeed from a meme template[1], but I thought that my comme

Electron rest mass is negligible to other effects. Notably electron rest mass adds to the same effect as inductance. You can calculate the effective inductance of a piece of wire coming from the electron's rest mass, and it is several

I replied to the overhead claim, you are moving the goal post. I don't think we will ever have consensus about the control flow aspects of exceptions. For example once you employ RAII it's easier to write error-agnostic functions

Error handling with exceptions mostly perform better on the happy path than error codes and explicit checking. Granted, on the sad path they perform much worse. Of course returning an error code, then not checking it performs better than ex

Note that there are two variables for running the simulation: t - duration of simulation for each individual particle N - number of simulated particles I believe if you leave t fixed, and then increase the size of the grid, then yeah, the n

IMO if it was properly exposed in C, or even as a GNU extension, then "fast math" would be part of the function type. 1. A non-fast-math function calling a fast-math function (or the other way around) should result in the floating

Yeah, but then don't say that it's just the cost of the replacement. Say that the same employee is just worth that much more if they are working from B instead of A, for X and Y reasons. Having said that, I am not really buying it

Wouldn't your replacement cost the same, regardless your location? They don't have to replace you with someone from the same location.
