This is kind of hard to do in practice unless you’re really watching where you’re allocating memory. It’s very easy in Java to end up accidentally throwing a bunch of allocated memory on the heap without realizing it. Fwiw, the JVM now has

Low pause collectors exist explicitly for this purpose. ZGC and Shenandoah both trade throughput (more concurrent collections) for extremely low pause times: https://malloc.se/blog/zgc-jdk16

It’s not about that. Even if the US copied German law verbatim Germany would just find some other excuse to harm the US. They can’t compete so they unfairly try to prop up their own companies via regulatory means.

US needs to economically retaliate in kind. If the US has the same data protections as the EU they’d make up some other excuse to attack US companies. This is what happens when you can’t compete you make up regulatory excuses. I’m sure I’ll

One would think that if there is truly a Europe wide market for such an unlocked device a competitor should be able to challenge Apple and Google dominance. Europe could even subsidize it. But instead, it’s more engineering by bureaucrats.

The thing that’s missing is that Facebook can now exploit people whereas previously Apple was forcing Facebook to act just slightly less shitty. If Facebook can bypass Apple then there is no leverage. Apple was enforcing some baseline of go

This law only serves to tell police how close they need to move towards people filming in order to get them to stop so their abuses can be done without being recorded.

This was already a right, this law just gives police an ability to harass people filming them if they so desire.

The US should economically retaliate. GDPR and these other regulations in the EU exist because EU cannot stomach the fact that they got beat on tech and instead of innovating they are regulating to try and even the playing field.
