Yeah, sure, that seems simple enough. I have a family of four. Plus a couple relatives who like having access to some of my self-hosted stuff. So, that's 6 people, each with at least one phone and one laptop, but probably an iPad too,

If you're just doing hub-and-spoke anyway, yeah, you can do it yourself. I did for years. But holy smokes, is it a PITA to manually copy keys around to devices; especially when they might not even be yours. I have my Tailscale account

That’s a great way to get one of the benefits of nix. But you still can check that snapshot into version control, share it with all your machines, etc.

Well, programs.hyperland.enable = true is your dnf equivalent on nix. But nix also lets you declare all your key bindings, load Noctalia with systemd, etc.

How's your French? Sounds like a flippant question, but I hear Parisians are not that... tolerant of even bad French speakers, let alone non-speakers. That stereotype has kept me from visiting, let alone living there, despite it probab

I just paid about 2 grand for new tires on my car. That contributed to GDP, but it certainly didn't make me happier than I'd be if I didn't need a car in the first place. GDP is very misleading when it's measuring work t

I feel like the word "protocol" is tripping you up. This isn't meant to be some standard that gets a bunch of traction in other projects. It's a protocol for the the River compositor; as the name suggests. Before this th

Still doesn't change the fact that after my kid walks to school, there's no database that school can query to figure out his exact route there. It's one thing to snap a frame of a license plate on a freeway that the entire ci

It still blows my mind when people tell me a car is "freedom". Yeah, the freedom to be tracked at all times by _multiple_ public and private organizations. So when you build a public institution that can only be accessed by car, c

I used to bike commute every day, and rather enjoyed the cold rides home in the dark in the middle of winter. I always have great hear, and plenty of lighting. I guess my weird brain associates that stuff with winter holidays. I like trick-

I guess. I'm at 46 degrees and civil twilight at Christmas starts at 7am. I get up at 6:30, so yeah, dead of winter, I spend 30 minutes in darkness. But that's better than 1:30. I guess it kinda hinges on this idea of "wastin

That's what everyone says. But it turns out people hate spending their morning in darkness for more light at night. Which makes perfect sense: https://washingtonian.com/2022/03/15/the-us-tried-permanent-.

Sway and i3. But when a WM does it, you can mix different apps in the same tab group, and your tab key binds can be the same as your WM key binds. You don’t have to remember alt+h for tabs, win+h for windows, etc. But I’m just busting your

Foot is worth a look. It’s the only terminal I’ve ever seen that starts up in sub-50ms cold, without a service already running. But you do have to run a proper window manager so you don’t have to require tab support in every single app. ;)

Wait, really? So I’ve used the terminal for everything for decades, and now, because of vibe coding, all The Kids have joined me? I don’t even know how to feel about that. Better terminals are nice though.

The experience I shared was on a city bus. My point is that you're totally disregarding everything a bus does to stop apart from waiting for passengers to board and de-board. At the very least it has to slow down, then accelerate. Half

I've watched 30 kids get off at their school in the morning. It takes 15 seconds. By your logic, 30 stops adds 15 seconds to a bus's schedule, which is pants-on-head crazy.
