For the language, K&R is good, and Expert C Programming: Deep C Secrets by Peter van der Linden is a great second book. But all the fun stuff happens when you start talking with your OS, so get a book about that too. If you are planni

In Postgres `extract(week from t)` has a similar danger. If you combine it with `extract(year from t)` then you land in the wrong place. You need to combine it with `extract(isoyear from t)` instead. That bug is sort of the opposite of this

I really enjoyed this article, and I think it shows how successfully jq fits into the Unix culture of sed/awk/grep/etc. It seems so rare to find new CLUI tools that feel as "classical" as jq. It has helped me do one

The weird design makes me as a layman skeptical of the tech's potential, but I'd love to hear why I'm wrong: - The randomness and lack of symmetry suggest that we are lacking insight into the problem, like an inelegant physic

I'm sad that SPAs have made us regress from haml back to plain html. Without closing tags, a whole class of bugs just goes away, and you can read your document structure at a glace. (Ease of reading is much more valuable than the saved

I don't know about interactive, but the book Unix Power Tools is a great survey, with quite a lot of depth. If you want something interactive as you work through the book (and even CLI itself), it would be hard to beat bash. ;-)
