Good riddance. Red delicious apples get mealy fast, sometimes before you buy them. I kept waiting for the article to acknowledge this, and the closest it came was "tastes have sifted." Bah, who has ever liked a mealy apple? Gala,

I've read that doc and other warnings about reverting a merge. But I've found that if you revert the revert, then you avoid the problems they mention. I guess the worry is that you still have to remember to do that, or you'll

Really appreciate everyone's replies! A related question about my example: what if I want to assign the pointer dereference to `tmp` to improve readability (rather than avoid multiple traversals). Is there any reason not to use a tmp

Does anyone have any advice on articles about C compiler optimizations in general (especially gcc)? I'm doing my first serious C work in ten years, and I keep wondering if I should fuss with things like this or let the compiler handle

One thing I heard once that has stuck with me: When you earn a dollar, you pay 30-40% tax on it, but when you save a dollar, you keep the whole thing. It pays to push on both the revenue side and the expense side, but one pro of putting eff

I'm a huge fan of window functions, but one restriction surprises me: in Postgres, you can't put a window function into a WHERE clause. Does anyone know if there is a good reason for this, or is it just a bit of missing functional

I learned a lot from reading the GOF book two or three years into my programming career. I think like most people, I'd already invented a few of its patterns, like pluggable Strategies, but it was great to have shared names for things.

Okay, I was curious enough I got out my paperwork. Looks like my origination fee was a lot higher. But my closing costs also included lots of escrow for property taxes and homeowners insurance, and I guess it makes sense to leave that out.
