I tried it with n=1000 and n=10000, and found that using xrange made it slightly faster, as did using itertools.imap, but the difference was pretty small. (Here I'm using the stock Python 2.7.1 on a 2011 MacBook Pro.)

This board is pretty minimalistic. It has five general-purpose I/O pins that you can use to read and write logic-level signals (either 0V or your supply voltage, usually either 3.3V or 5V). Three of those also have analog-to-digital co

> I guess I can't understand how this could even be argued. It can be argued because some people got offended, and it's much more socially acceptable to argue than to say "I am offended!" This holds true regardless

In some cities, most notably New York, homeless people can get free transportation out. Usually it's just bus fare, which is admirably cheap by the standards of government social programs.

Is that because you care more about the people nearer to you, or because it's easier to help them? (Personally, I'd answer 'yes' and 'probably not', respectively. If you want to help people in bulk, you can pro

The same criticism applies to wikis and their nonlinear way of presenting information. Despite that, people find wikis tremendously valuable, and a big part of it is the ability to jump around, following your own path through the informatio

You don't know the size of their dataset, or the number of queries per second they need to support, or the latency requirements they have to meet. They do, and found that the obvious solution -- prefix queries on B-trees -- was too slo

In Java, you should almost always use the standard sort, which I believe is Timsort these days. This book is written in Java mostly because that's what CS students know, not because it's uniquely well-suited to the material. (That

I just checked, and it turns out I'm using Vixie Cron -- I just hadn't noticed it because it's never been a problem. That being the case, it would be rude of me not to wish him the best of luck in whatever he does next.

For very good engineering reasons, Redis is limited to what it can keep in memory. Postgres, for equally good reasons, can use disk. That makes a difference if you have a lot of key-value pairs to store, and are willing to accept a few disk

At McDonald's, there's a very obvious causal relationship between paying some money and getting a hamburger, so of course people pay. With nginx, you just apt-get install your hamburger, and you're done. Donating would hardly
