If you want to see this behaviour dialed to 11, check how Microsoft management talks about WinUI 3.0, and the harsh reality of its sore state of development experience. It would be great if it was half as bad as SwiftUI.

I suggest reading Steve Jobs biographies regarding those kind of expenses at Apple, Pixar and NeXT.

It only worked that way for Steve Jobs, because under him, as it was at NeXT as well, either you dedicate your life to the cause, or go work elsewhere.

It is a generation thing, all the folks that were able to ship those products are now retired, or approaching retirement, and apparently newer generations can only do Electron, React Native and co.

Whereas I never worked in places where IT would not see that as a security violation.

You don't need $600 dewalt drills to open holes for most carpenter's. Ah, but we used to pay, and many of us still do, because as programmers, some of us also like to earn salaries, we don't get to buy groceries with pull req

Actually Microsoft has their own fork that ships with Visual Studio installer. However that was me guessing from Herb Sutter's reply.

HackerNews, the site when someone posts about their business for developer tooling, there is always a bunch of folks posting links about half implemented alternatives, because who wants to pay for tooling like any other professionals?

Additionally, the end stop was Inferno and not Plan 9. Rob Pike also acknowledged that leaving GC out of Alef and going back to C was a mistake, speaking of which the Plan 9 C compilers continued to be their own thing instead of blindly fol

Actually, the harsh reality is that for a large majority it has been an easier way to pirate, nothing else, while feeling entitled to scream at the poor maintainers for not implementing whatever features they needed for yesterday.

No, UB is allowed special powers for compiler and standard library implementors, which is what Herb Sutter means with internal behaviour. Meaning MSVC is aware of these cases, so the compiler has special cases for it.

Hopefully this will be part of UB fixes for C++29, where plenty of UB is being redefined as erroneous behaviour instead.

And less language adoption in regions whose devs aren't able to afford beefy computers to use Rust ergonomically. Which is why then they go back other languages, https://loglog.games/blog/leaving-rust-gamedev

That is true of all UNIX assemblers, they never had the "used by humans" culture, rather being part of a C compiler pipeline approach. At least since UNIX v4. All good Assemblers have come from Amiga, Atari, PC world.

Yes a big part of that, is being able to design Orbis OS whatever they feel like without caring about upstream, same with using clang on the devkit.

Urban myth regarding the Switch, Nintendo uses its own in-house microkernel based OS. And Orbis OS uses as much FreeBSD as Android/ChromeOS use Linux, in what gets exposed to devs.

It definitely isn't, when placed against IBM and Unisys mainframes/micros, where security leads OS design for decades.
