I bet there are plenty of them that don't work on IBM i, while Java does fine there. Just to quote a possible scenario among others.

Proving the point that pretending architecture astronauts appeared spontaneously after 1996 is kind out of place. Many famous enterprise pattern books were published before 1996, even though many think they contain Java sample code.

Capabilities are a way to control that, and the point being that only responsible proven applications get the certificate, hence how it all goes on iOS.

Machine code is insecure, we should all run interpreted code in a formally verified interpreter. Alternatively, only allow for the execution of cryptographly signed static linked binaries, this naturally includes the interpreter above.

The original Dartmouth BASIC had a JIT like approach, the REPL would compile to machine code before execution. It was the limits of 8 bit home computers hardware that made the interpreter version be more widely known. Same to Lisp, Smalltal

Yep, before UNIX and C there were no systems programming languages, and after getting the clay tablets from UNIX and C, all civilisation was built upon them. /s At least when you spend long time around some programming circles.

Yes, the time to cage drivers into userspace is long time overdue, and it isn't for lack of userspace drivers API. Apparently Microsoft still can't play an Apple move, in the quest to do so.

Interesting article overall, although some gotchas on the introduction. Misses out on LispWorks and Allegro Common Lisp for the Common Lisp entry, which contrary to SBCL provide a similar graphics experience as the Lisp machines of yore, he

The golden age was with Amiga, Atari ST and similar systems. Now everyone ships Electron crap, and then as alternative we are back into the 70's, because they cannot code anything else.

Use a REPL. Since when is pipelining a low level feature? How do you think OSes like Mac OS (the original one), exposed their low level features, whatever that may be?

X Windows was invented on the 1980's and isn't the only way to graphically access remote systems. Modern cloud systems shouldn't even have shell access, immutable containers with telemetry data.

Some folks love to live in the golden age of CP/M, MS-DOS, and timesharing green and amber terminals, for whatever reason. I was alive back then already, and was a relief to finally be able to afford GUI powered computers.

Yes, for .NET and Java backend stuff, it is basically extending what is already there. On low code/no code tools, you get additional metadata for webhooks.
