These days the world assumes that all parts of emails are case-insensitive, even if RFC5321 says otherwise. If it’s true for Google, Outlook & Apple mail then it’s basically true everywhere & everyone else has to get with the progra

“I want this thing, but in a different language” seems to be something that the current generation of cutting edge LLMs are pretty good at. Translating a vibe is something the Ur-LLMS (GPT3 etc) were very good at so it’s not entirely surpri

There are plenty of people on HN who could re-implement a C compiler like this in less than three months. Algorithmically compilers like this are a solved problem that has been very well documented over the last sixty or seventy years. Impl

I’m impressed that San Diego electrical power manages to be even more expensive than in the UK. That takes some doing.

Six years ago I was building LLVM pretty regularly on an 8GB Dell 9360 laptop whilst on a compiler related contract. (Still have it actually - that thing is weirdly indestructible for a cheap ultrabook.) Build time wasn’t great, but it was

A BIOS update to my PC reset the TPM only this week. I did get a warning that Bitlocker keys would be wiped as a result before acting at least. (I believe this was because it was fixing an AMD TPM exploit - presumably updating the TPM code

Eesh. The fight over RAM supply is going to upend a lot of product markets. Just random happenstance over whether a company decided to lock in supply for a couple of years is going to make or break individual products.

Yeah, I think (sadly) this kills the Steam Machine in the short term if the competition is current consoles. At least until the supply contracts Sony & Microsoft have signed come up for renewal, at which point they’re going to be gettin

SteamOS on the Deck is just a standard (tuned) Linux distribution under the hood. It would be very surprising to me if Valve shifted to an entirely different OS for the Cube.

Arguably "Disco Elysium" is a modern text adventure. A text adventure crossed with a point & click puzzle game in a 3D world admittedly but the vast majority of the actual game itself is contained within the text.

I’m aware. But the first part is “find me something in the vector space that looks something like the thing I’m asking for”. Then the rest is vibes. Sometimes the vibes are good, sometimes they are ... decidedly not. If the results are usef
