Thanks, I am enjoying it. I'm working on a holiday project that includes writing an Erlang server that will need a FSM. Even though I've written many FSMs in other languages I'm new to Erlang, so it's great to have this nice guide. Glad I d

If the government thinks it can get coins into circulation by having people order them from the government it's going to fail no matter what. Not saying this makes the guy's scheme is OK, just that the mint doesn't have a chance. Why won't

I wanted to reply to anthonyb's comment about macro use changing the language in the clojure example but couldn't, I guess because it's too deeply nested. Anyway, ataggart didn't write a macro he just used one that's already part of the lan

I did have this problem in the past. I fixed it by switching to a Microsoft Natural keyboard (the $40 one). That got rid of the problem for me after about three days. At first I thought the improvement was due to the ergonomic form of the k

If one were to ask me that question I would respond by saying that I have been programming in Common Lisp for many years and would gladly switch to any lisp, especially Clojure, if it made sense for our business.

I noticed in the test code linked to by the article that the closed over variables are all declared final. I'm not sure if that's just because of the early stage of implementation or if that's actually going to be a requirement. If so that

We could but it would be difficult. Our product requires that our customers subclass our Java classes to implement their custom business logic, and sometimes it's necessary to provide the source to our base classes for reference. Sending a

I'd say our customers would think we're slow to support new Java versions. But I'm also pretty confident that they've never heard of Clojure and probably not even Scala. I added support for Groovy a few years ago and it's received very litt

It bothered me at first but after not too much time began to feel pretty reasonable. I have a few issues with the language but they're really just trivial ones. Clojure has become my favorite language, so I can't complain too much.

It's hard to say not knowing the scale of the application or any of it's requirements, etc. In any case, if you do stick with Java you might try out the Play framework, it looks like a nice alternative to the typical gigantic Java framework
