Really enjoyed the stories (the third one, especially), thanks for posting them. It's exciting to see a writer embrace this technology and use it in such an effective way. Are there any other GPT-3 "collaborations" you'd

Looking back at my regular American public high school, I'm really impressed how they handled students who didn't fit the standard pace. One thing, they were very flexible about credit replacements, so if you didn't want to t

This post did not reach the conclusion I was expecting based on the title. For me, I think I've largely experienced the opposite relationship between ego and my programming productivity. Learning to program as a kid was probably one of

I wouldn't be surprised if it has something to do with "Geometry Images." Like REYES, the goal is to target pixel-sized polygons, but it handles tessellation differently. Brian Karis, the programmer speaking in the video link

I agree there would be a large moral shift, and it kind of boggles my mind to try to think about it, but I don't think it's necessarily untenable. Taking the candy bar example, in current society, even someone who doesn't bel

There are some interesting arguments that we'd be better off not assuming free will. Yuval Noah Harari (of Sapiens fame) talks about it quite a bit. He mentions his stance briefly in this interview https://www.theguardian.co

That's right, the Soraa Healthy was very green! So, even without the flicker, the fact that it makes everybody look like undead zombies would be reason enough to disqualify it as a bedroom night light.

Thanks to GP for the links, I completely missed that previous thread! And, yeah, I tried that Soraa healthy bulb, and it was shockingly bad, given how it was advertised. Even the regular Soraa bulbs were disappointingly flickery, though les

I completely agree, flicker has been the most distracting part of switching to LEDs, for me. Here are two good sites that posted graphs of light intensity over time for a bunch of different bulbs: http://www.ledbenchmark.com/

I can't find the source right now, but I read that the fastest cells in the visual pathway can respond at a bit under 500Hz. Part of the reason the ieee suggests a minimum PWM frequency of 3000Hz is, for signal processing reasons I don

Color transitions are hard, and that illusion is pretty trippy. Beyond that, my sense is another big problem most people run into when they try to light pixel art (or any hand-painted asset) is that the asset is almost always "pre-tone

It's tricky, though, since most LED bulbs use a single wavelength of blue LEDs which get downshifted by phosphors, even in high CRI bulbs, you can have an unnaturally large spike in the blue (often around 450nm).
