Saying BGP runs on top of IP is true but doesn't tell you what BGP does or how Global scale IP doesn't work without BGP. BGP is the protocol Internet Routers (i.e. not your home router) use to figure out how to route IP addresses to particu

A much more useful thing to do than take out a big site is use BGP to create your own "section of the internet" to do your malicious deeds from, then afterwards remove the BGP routes and your addresses will no longer exist on the internet.

I had heard that there was a combination of a blight on cork trees and a huge increase in demand of wine corks but I don't have any good sources. Anybody else know more?

Well, I would argue a large number of young white professionals have moved in to and are gentrifying many parts of DC.

Another option for improving sales of AR would be to start a referral program. I would love to send you referrals for a little cut but I don't really want to stand up a whole white label operation.

Last I looked, insurance premiums on spaceflight were on the order of 20-25% of insured value of the payload. So if it were a $10 million payout Orbcomm probably paid out 2 million in insurance pre launch.

I don't really believe your "equal speeds" claim. No robotic electric car will be able to use today's infrastructure at 200+ MPH.

Thanks for the report. A really interesting read for the engineer in me. Under "primary cause analysis" on page 18 of the report (pg 24 of the pdf) it says that they may have actually been related: In summary, after the right engine failed

Do you have a primary source? I'm genuinely interested in the report if it is available. Google just gives news stories saying "OMG a plane crashed into an apartment building!" which isn't helpful to the engineer in me.

Unfortunately #2 is extremely unlikely to be true. Engine failures are very related in very unexpected ways. The SpaceX guys have worked very hard to make them as independent as possible but with so many failure modes it is impossible to sa

Unfortunately, MAC addresses can be spoofed by a dedicated attacker. It prevents your neighbor from using your connection without paying, until they decide to listen to what your address is and then just use your address when you go to bed.

Looks like you're off to a good start. Given your goals, the one thing I'd add is to get familiar with the Configuration Management tools like Nagios and Puppet/Chef. Nagios is a management tool ("Server X is getting slashdotted. Go check i

Working on DCGS-A was interesting. The new versions are significant improvements to the UI but I don't know if they ever fixed the reboot issues they faced. If everything worked perfectly it had a whole lot of capability.
