That's super interesting. Tritium is signed and notarized (as is required) and uses the clean second-binary approach on all platforms, so I never ran into this. One thing that did come up was the requirement to use `ditto` rather than

Yes, this is a somewhat pragmatic approach and perhaps that should have been made clearer. It's necessary to help partially comply with the big spec. As Tritium implements more of the spec, the solution is to eliminate the Option retur

Actually that’s a fair point that should be clarified. These would be in places where practically panicking cannot happen, so you be tempted to swallow the Error and continue. But they should only be used where recovering with Default is ok

Wow! But seriously this would have to be code written before two weeks ago to be pushed to production OTA to a fleet of vehicles, right?

Just wrote about my battles with software updates[1]. Without getting into what should or shouldn’t happen, I’ll express my sympathy for the Jeep team and the owners. Software updates are hard. [Edit: a commenter notes that Jeep’s parent ha

Yes, it does render PDFs. There's actually an example PDF in the bundle if you click "Fetch Example" from the web preview at: https://tritium.legal/preview . Under the hood, Tritium is using PDFium[1]. That&

Yes, and there are probably a lot of other clever ideas. But the better solution is probably just to implement more of the spec. Once you get through maybe 80% of the tags, you've eliminated 99.9% of the memory issue given their freque

This is the solution for that particular issue that Tritium uses. [NOTE: one dragon would be the memory consumption alluded to in the article.]

I thought about that as well, but it's really just so core to every aspect of the product that Tritium needs to own it 100%. We just don't have the capacity to take a tradeoff that is favorable to the broader use case. I highlight

I agree, but that's really true for questions like "does it run fast"? And those kind of arguably fit into the "legible" camp. Whereas "is it fun?" is a question less able to be formally tested and articul

The temptation since the TDD movement has been that if you can't test it, it isn't "written". I think "legibility" is a great word to describe that desire. I have hundreds of unit tests for Tritium, but it wasn
