I upgraded from a Pixel XL (which itself was a free upgrade after my Nexus 6P ran into the battery shutdown issues) to the 4XL when it came out in November, and while I can't say I _regret_ my purchase, it's just... unremarkable.

The REPL is still something that I haven't quite mastered, but what I enjoy doing right now is working in files and using a REPL connection to evaluate expressions within the file. It feels like a happy medium between "do everythi

Would you mind elaborating on (or provide a link to) some of the problems you mentioned Hololens 2 having? Also, I've never heard of Digilens; do you have a preferred source for learning more about that device and what its limitations

Going to throw my weight behind the Clojure recommendation. For more information about the language, there was a great PDF published about the history of the language recently: https://download.clojure.org/papers/clojur

The hardest thing for us has been the loss of public spaces -- not being able to take my 3yo son the Air and Space Museum (his favorite place), to ride the metro, or even over to Grandma's house for the afternoon is tough. What I mis

A lot of the comments here are reminding me a lot of Tom MacWright's critique of modern web development: https://macwright.org/2020/05/10/spa-fatigue.html Around the same time, Vladimir Agafonkin (perhap

Even if that means the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation wouldn't exist today? At the cost of the hundreds of millions[0] of lives they've saved? Not attacking, just starting a discussion. What if we frame this in the context of t

Thanks for your comment, it is a nice reminder to receive. When I wrote the comment, I was remembering a coworker whose nephew had ASD, and could not process spoken word from his family well. They discovered that using the "say" c

Having a robot companion as an "impartial" third party may help kids work through issues they (feel like they) can't talk with their parents about. For better or worse, parents are human beings, and (even unconsciously) may s

Unless I'm misunderstanding the ClojureScript team posts, one of the motivations for tight webpack integration is that not every npm module is compatible with advanced compilation. From the article[0]: > But after nearly three years

This is a useful reminder; thank you. It's true that my original comment was made in the context of having virtually all of my needs already met, and being far along the path to self-actualization.

This is an excellent point! I personally subscribe to Rich Hickey's "hammock driven development" approach to problem solving, and I think how we approach problems, like our tools, is something that can be optimized with pract

Your comment reminds me a bit of the relationship between Clojure and JavaScript. Back in 2014, Clojure-based web development had all kinds of groundbreaking ideas that massively improved quality of life: immutable data structures, hot code

This is a great suggestion; the Zero has enough oomph to run the JVM, which gives you access to Clojure! I had the most luck installing the Zulu Embedded version of Java, and I've had a Clojure webapp running on my Pi Zero for over a w

I would not be surprised if a lot of people elected to watch shows in their parked car instead of their living room simply because of the fantastic audio system. I don't have a surround sound system in my home, but I do in my Model 3!

Bruce Hauman has given a few good talks about how you can use tools like Figwheel to bring a REPL-like development experience to web development. You can watch him live-code the game 2048 in the screencast where he introduces DevCards[0].
