What a new model would need is more compat with DV and better software. Get rid of the Android ads. Add better frame rate matching. Etc.

So it's using a web view? What's the memory usage like? How long does it take for the GUI to show up and be interactive? What are you using in the C++ engine? CMajor? JUCE?

Personally it's rare that I leave something unsaved. That said it has never been an issue on macOS in 20 years.

   > You had unsaved work? Too bad, it's gone, get bent. This has happened to me a couple of times. I put the PC to sleep and the next morning I discover it has decided to close everything to install an update. Not using Windows ever

NI has a strong ARR of $80-100M. The issue is most likely the debt to buy Izotope etc after the acquisition by Francisco Partners.

I don't think apps where people spend a lot of time are equivalent to small tools. You can vibe code a calculator but you probably spend most of your time on much more complex software.

Plenty of users will benefit from restricting it or even disabling sideloading entirely. I know my mother in her 70s can't be trusted with downloading random crap from the internet.

The vast majority of Android users don't sideload apps. I used Android for years and only did it during dev. I don't know anyone who does it.
