It's so bad with my work laptop that I find myself doing work on my personal laptop and git patching it on my work laptop. Also doesn't help that because I don't feel comfortable with all the monitoring software on my work la

As someone forced to use a Windows laptop for work with the new job, I've stopped complaining about my Mac. It's so much worse on the other side of the fence... Working on Windows makes me appreciate the Mac ecosystem so, so, so

A grandiose statement like, “…to the point where our engineering velocity is incredible. I can’t believe what we’re achieving in engineering” needs to be followed by, “Ignore the man behind the curtain.”

I always tell people to take control of the situation and stay calm. If “Google” or someone contacts you about a problem, simply hang up or ignore the email, look up the company’s info online, and contact the company directly.

Another plus for your landing page. It’s amazing how many landing pages vomit features the developer is excited about but never explain why I need their product.

It’s a truly amazing, beautiful, stunning piece of tech. The ability to seamlessly blend the pieces of your build together in such an elegant way can’t be appreciated enough. What these devs have accomplished is truly stunning. I always thi

I first learned to program in CBASIC on an Eagle II (Z80), then later TI-BASIC, and finally MSBASIC. Thank you, Mr. Kurtz, for introducing me to a wonderful career and fond memories of hacking “BASIC Computer Games” by David Ahl into my ear

The $7500 jumped out at me, but for a different reason. This seems awfully high for a site with 2 million registered users. I feel like some backend optimization could get than number way down ($1000/mo?). What is all this computing po

Immutability isn’t a new idea, and you don’t need “gobs of memory.” Erlang was developed in the 80’s.

Apple gave schools steep discounts, with the idea being that young people learning on Apple computers would have parents purchasing computers their kids were familiar with. Later, those kids would become adults purchasing the computers the

How about invalidate the user’s refresh token and the public signing key, which forces everyone to refresh and then logs out the hacked account. If it’s really serious, lock the account before doing this so the user can’t login again. But y

Sorry, should have been clearer. I was thinking in the context of every online discussion I’ve run across around “Rust vs. any other language,” where the diehard Rustaceans insist that we should just rewrite everything in Rust. Totally agre

My problem with Rust is that it’s a hammer, and every nail is memory safety. If I’m writing a TLS library or kernel module, yes, memory safety is paramount. But if I’m writing pretty much anything else, Rust isn’t worth the slog.

Holy cow. Trying to read an article on Vice is atrocious. I’m ok with you needing to publish ads, but when it makes the site bounce around like dog chasing squirrels, I give up.

I took a glance at that “Nature of Predators” book, but couldn’t get past the first sentence. Did the author really mean “sapience,” or “sentience?”

This is 100% the way to do it. It just came so naturally because I’ve used Macs for years. But I’ve noticed on Linux and Windows laptops (even Windows on an Intel MacBook) this approach doesn’t work. I find it so frustrating when I have to

That’s a great quote. I’ve always said when it works, it’s to our team members’ credit; when it doesn’t, it’s my fault. But don’t rely on just that as a gauge of a good leader. I don’t know that I’m that effective a leader, since I’m not c

JetBrains “won” because of code inspection tools and code completion that was light years ahead of Eclipse and Netbeans. I remember in my Java days I used to be able to do in a keystroke what my Eclipse friends did in a dozen dialogs.
