Commit messages aren't a great place for this, much of the time, because then you have to do archaeology just to figure out why something is the way it is. I'm certainly a fan of including lots of detail in commit messages, but of

"Why" comments typically refer to things outside of the actual code, such as: * Past incidents * Regulations * What the code used to do, and why that was bad The whole point of a really good comment is that you can't infer

In the Boston area, our water comes from the Quabbin Reservoir. That's largely fed by rain, as far as I am aware. How much PFAS actually gets filtered out? Probably not much.

Makes sense. I tend to carry things in my left hand to leave my dominant right hand free for other tasks. And cradling an infant while trying to get other stuff done is very, very common.

Frankly, I'm glad Authy Desktop is dead. It didn't allow exporting of TOTP secrets, so migrating off of it was a pain. I've been much, much happier with a tiny shell alias to oathtool and gpg. For extra benefit, bind a keyboa

Yes, keeping track of second factors is... definitely not a solved problem. Relatedly, I have to manually maintain a text file of all of the sites I've used my Yubikeys on so that if I lose one I know where-all I have to rotate to a ne

Weird to describe one of the applications as solving famine. We can already do that with grains and pulses, and more efficiently than using those as feedstocks for an expensive industrial process.

Ah, I see what you're saying. I'm... not actually sure, though. There's a huge amount of recorded work to draw from, and just a larger number of people working on things. It might be that we're actually better off in our
